Topic: How long was your wait??? Posted: 13 August 2010 at 2:08pm |
Hi everybody.
My partner and I are currently on the IVF waiting list for Christchurch Repromed, due to my partners sperm count being low.
We were told that the we would have to wait 11 months before being called up.
Just wondering if the list get shorter with cancellations and has anyone ever been called up earlier than they expected?
Im getting so frustrated with waiting, and just want things to start happening...

We're in Auckland but we were advised that we should expect around 12+ months on the waiting list, but I think we were done and dusted in around 8 ... a bit of a shock in that we decided to keep ourselves busy doing the house up, and ended up having to do a massive amount of work in a really short space of time
I think that a combination of cancellations and your points rating can determine whether you jump up the list or not.
All the best!

We are going through hamilton for similar treatment and the waiting list is bout 18 months, we have an appt in Feb 2012 for our first round of IVF
I questioned about cancellations etc and being moved up the waiting list and they explained that if say someone cancelled in August they offer the appointment to the first couple on the list for the month of September, and so on.
Keep your fingers crossed cause I do believe that there is a high possibility that you will get moved up the list.

We are on the auckland waiting list and were told about 18 months wait, but when i emailed them they have said treatment looks likely for sept 2011 (so 13 months) they also did say it could be sooner if there are cancellations - we too are really hoping that we can get treatment before sept 2011, i really hate this waiting and just want to start this process esp reading in the first time IVF thread where one lady got a BFP and that we have already been trying for nearly 3 years!!

Tiff8ny - thanks for giving me a bit of hope about being moved up the list as well. It does feel like it is so far away, but i look at it as something to look forward to, and it is great to read these forums, get advice and share in other peoples sucess stories, gives that little bit more hope to us all.
Balcy & Tiff8ny - good luck to you both on your journey's and can't wait to hear of your BFP's

Hi Balcy1
I'm also in Nth Cnty and am with Repromed in ChCh. We just got our letter to say we've made it to the waitlist and it's for Sept 2011.
I've been recently speaking with a friend who has had 2 publicly funded cycles and knows a couple of others going through it, and apparently they very easily run out of money towards the end of the year.
This has meant that someone called up in August one year got funding, and someone called up in September a different year had to wait until more funding came through the following January.
So I hope when you get your letter it's in the first six months of the year!!!!!
Unfortunately I'm worst-case-scenarioing it and assuming we won't get funding til Jan 2012, which sux massively. I guess it'll be a nice surprise if it comes through sooner ..... although I'll be 37 that year - grrrrr.
I hope you have lots to distract you in the meantime. Unfortunately IVF is filled with waits once you get started too - but we all get through it and keep going back for more if we have to!
Gosh this has felt quite negative .... I don't want to put you off, but I guess it's the reality of public funding - grrrr (again)

Where abouts in North Canterbury are you Tischler?
We due to be called up in March 2011, so sounds like Im lucky to be in the first half of the year.
Waiting till 2012 sounds like a lifetime away.
Also, Tiff8ny, you said you e-mailed to find out where you were on the waiting list. Does anyone know if we are able to do this with Repromed ChCh?
Would be great to know approx where we are on the list and if it is closer than expected...

Hi balcy1. I had only been emailing the lady from FA because I was emailing her about something else and I knew we were eligible for the waiting list from June this year. I hadnt received anything in the mail from them so asked her in my email about something else. She then said to me I had to fill in a residency questionnaire before our names went on the list, I then emailed her back to see if they got the questionnaire in the mail cause I was so scared that the paperwork would get lost and we would miss out haha. She said to me then that waiting list for them was around 18 months but it looks at this stage that we would be getting treatment in Sept 2011. We did receive a letter about 2 months ago saying we were now on the list and that within 3 months and a year before treatment that they would send us another letter to say an expected treatment date but so far we havent receive that letter - Im dying to get it though and find out how long our wait it. I got my hopes up having it in sept next year so really hope I dont have to wait some more if the funds run out!

Hiya Balcy1, I'm in Rangiora moved out from ChCh last year
I quite often phoned Rebecca (I think it is or Janine) at Repromed to find out where we were at. They were able to tell me, and then obviously when going through IVF cycles we made sure our specialist was well aware we were waiting and wanting to know!!
I don't know if they'd be able to tell you anymore now you've got 'the letter'! I hear that they take 20-30 couples each month, so when you do get the phone call make sure you get all your tests done ASAP so you can be one of the first!!!
Tiff8ny - hopefully by the time the All Blacks win the Word Cup we'll be going through our cycles ..... that is when they win next year - fx'd!!! Thinking of it that way might help our countdown anyway!

Thanks for the info... Im in Culverden, or the sticks is probably a better way of saying it.... LOL
I know what you mean Tiff8ny about the paperwork getting lost. This kind of thing always happens to me. Even when we were getting referred by our GP, the referral never made it. I had to phone and get them to send it again, about 6 weeks after waiting for an appointment. So that gave us yet another 6 weeks wait on top. Grrrrrr!!!!
Guess I will just have to be patient and wait for that very much awaited letter or phone call to say out turn has finally arrived.
Im well known for having NO patience.. haha
FX'd it happens for us all as quickly as possible...

Im right with you Tiff8ny. Every day I count down the weeks until I will hopefully have heard something.
So far Im down to approx 27 weeks to go. Its like pulling teeth. And especially because Im not working, so the time seems to drag even more.
And Im kinda glad that Im not only one who has paperwork trouble. I thought it was just my bad luck that it always seemed to happen only to me.

so what stage are you up to with the waiting balcy? have you received the letter to say your eligible for public funding and they will give you another letter with an expected treatment date...... Have you received that second letter yet that says the expected treatment date? thats what i am waiting for at the mo, which they said would be within 3 months of receiving the first letter which would mean end of sept i will hear by.
I so wish we could afford a private IVF cycle in the meantime!! i will be buying a lotto ticket this weekend hehe

We have received the letter to say we are eligible for public funding, and waiting for the next letter to hopefully tell us when treatment will be starting.
We had our initial appt in April and we were told 11 months until we would hear anything. So we are expecting to hear something in about March 2011.
Yea, I wish we could afford a private IVF cycle as well, and I will keep buying those lotto tickets to.
They must work it differently where you are. Which is great because at least once you get that letter stating when treatment will start, you have a definate date to count to.

We are also with Repromed Chch and have been told that the waitlist is approximately 11 months long. However we are also on the waitlist for a sperm donor which is apparently several years long so I have no idea when we will actually be able to begin treatment.
