Topic: I would like to change my gut feeling Posted: 19 August 2010 at 3:04pm |
I'm 37 and have been trying to fall pregnant for 1 & half years. I have recently done my first round on Clomid with no luck. I had a scan to find one of my tubes is blocked. The thing I'm writing about is I have always had this gut feeling that I will never be able to have children even before I started trying. I wish my gut feeling would go. Is there any magical thing which can help turn my instinct strings to positive?

Hi feenz
First, I'm really sorry to hear that you're having to go down this road, it isn't easy . I think it is totally natural for anyone facing adversity/trouble with ttc to have a myriad of thoughts racing through their mind, and some of them, although maybe sometimes in the background, aren't 'nice' and perhaps darker than we like to acknowledge. It seems to me, that you've been able to identify how you're feeling is a great step, because a lot of people aren't even aware of the depth of emotions that run under the surface along this journey. Perhaps it would be helpful to talk to a counsellor about what you're going through, and your fears. It's amazing how much less power thoughts can have when they're 'out'.
All the very best hun, it's a tough ask to walk this road when so many seem to have it so easy. One of my friends has a quote she references which I think is great; “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” (Thomas A. Edison).
And know that there are successes, where the odds have been so heavily stacked against it. There are so many cases in this forum alone. I really hope that you get that miracle baby you so dearly want x.

Hi Feenz
I have had that thought too.... surely I can't be the one that will never have children?
There are so many options, IVF, donor eggs, adoption even.
Definitely don't start thinking like that at this early stage and keep going.
I have been trying for 3 years and got a BFP after 2 rounds of IVF and 2 miscarriages, and there are lots of stories of success around.
Good luck.

Thankyou Ceres
It is still early days for me in the fertility process with still alot of options to try. I feel better (apart from I wish it wasnt there of course) for finding the tube blockage as at least it helps me understand possible causes. And I also feel positive about going ahead that I will try what I can. But I just wish I could shake off this instinct thing I have.
I havent used a blog before this one. You are right, it does feel good mentioning it rather than keeping it to myself.

BFP stands for Positive Pregnancy Test.
Well thats what I have worked out from reading this forum anyway.
Im also new to this forum and I also have the same gut feeling about conceiving.
I have only been pregnant once, it was a 'surprise' pregnancy and I have an 8 year old boy to show for it. But after about 3 years of trying, I havent been able to get pregnant again.
I also cant help thinking it will never happen again, and I am so jealous sitting back and watching my friends grow their families.
I guess we just have to hang in there, and hope for the best. My partner and I are waiting for IVF treatment in March 2011. Such an awful waiting time.
Anyway, try and Think Positive, thats what Im doing and difficult as it is....

balcy1 & feenz, i didn't know what the terminology was either when i started reading the forums, but if you have a look under "Forum Guidelines & Messages from Admin" it gives you a breakdown of what all the abbreviations are

thanks for the guidelines. When I hear about people waiting so long for IVF I feel like I would like to book it now or at least start the process. It would be nice to know what others went through before they booked in IVF.

Hi Feenz,
Other than a blocked tube do you have any other fertility issues they have picked up on? You may be eligible to get straight on the waiting list for IVF if you do (I have a blocked tube and suspected PCOS and got straight on) The other thing is that a blocked tube will obviously slow down the process. Unfortunately it isn't black and white in the way we ovulate (ie. left to right) Sometimes you can ov on one side for months and then switch or have a dominant side so potentially a year and a half could only equal 8 months of actually being able to concieve. Wishing you all the best!! It really does help to talk to others who are going through the same thing, forums have kept me sane for nearly three years now!
