We have just bought a property that has the remains of a house fire on it. We have just started clearing the rubble etc and I found a few photo albums etc that are charred around the edges but a few of the photos are still intact. I want to contact the vendors to see if they want them, DH thinks we should just leave it as they have already taken what was salvagable and would have taken them if they wanted them. He think it would just upset them. I don't think it would hurt to ask? I feel so sad for them that they lost everything. ETA - Oh and WWYD? = What would you do? lol not sure why I didn't just write that!

I think it would be nice to offer. You never know, they might have been overlooked. And lets face it, they're about the only truly irreplaceable thing.

I agree, I'd contact them. If it were me, I'd be really happy to get them back.

Were they quite visable or buried under stuff? I guess if they were visable then they would have seen them and not wanted them. But otherwise I'd contact them and just ask if they want them |

I would offer especially if they weren't very visable. I would imagine they might not have wanted to go through everything initially so would appreciate it.

Definitely contact them.  I'm not sure who wouldn't want their photos really, must have been an oversight.  |

Were they old style photos, or relatively new? They may have left them as they (like I imagine most of us do) have an electronic file as back-up, and can easily reprint them off...?
 Doesnt hurt to ask though

I would contact them and ask them if they want them. If they were buried especially they may not have known they were there.
OT I was watching oprah the other day and they were talking about the recession and people going into mortgagee sales and they mentioned how everyone says the first thing they'll grab is photos etc and they had a company on that was getting paid to junk the houses and throw it all out. The guy was saying that they find photos, birth certs, marriage certs and stuff all the time!

MrsB... definitely contact them...  a few years ago I lost a treasured album and others things in a move (think the box got thrown out with other things by mistake!) and still feel upset about the lost pics! |
