Hi there
My child is in full time preschool (8-4:30 daily) as I have to work. For the past three months or so he has pretty much been sick the whole time. He has had 4 rounds of antibiotics to no avail. After about a week after the course finishes he is back with a thick green snotty nose and cough. He just cant seem to shake it. He eats tonnes of fruit and vegetables and healthy foods so its not like he has bad nutrition or anything but just keeps getting sick! I have tried everything! What do you do to keep your child's immunity up? and stop them getting sick? I feel so horrible for the poor boy!

That doesn't sound very nice T isn't in daycare yet, but one thing we do to help with his immune system (apart from what you've already said about healthy foods etc) is give him baby prebiotics with his breakfast to boost up his good bacteria to help with immunity but again as he isn't in daycare I can't say if that helps or not, sorry not a lot of help

Yoghurt, garlic and mushrooms are great for immunity.
It might be worth looking into a childrens supplement from the chemist as well maybe.

Also is he taking the same type of antibiotics each time? If he needs them again it might pay to try a different type as it could be possible that whatever bug he has got/keeps getting has become immune to them.

Yip, I second the pro-biotics. We give DD some in her bottle each night and since she's been having it, no colds in this house!! (touch wood).
We had two rounds of bronchiolitis which starts off with a cold.
Is it possible to take a few days off to allow him to recover properly? I had DD out of DC for 6 days (she only goes 2 days a week, but kept her home one day, then had labour day). She recovered completely.
I think now the warmer weather is here hopefully those nasty bugs stay away now.

You have my sympathy - DS started daycare at the end of May and we went through the same thing. It is horrible. Touch wood I've found in the past month or so he is coping a lot better, and I think it is just time and getting used to it. In saying that, he has two infected ears at the mo but seems to be handling it better.

I've heard good things about colloidal silver (just might pay to check before giving it to young ones but we gave it to DS) and Clinicians also do an immunity boosting thing called pepicole which is a colostrum based product. We have used both on occassions but nothing religiously as for us I think it is just time...

Oh so know what you are saying... it's so hard having to work and having a sick child.
I do pro biotics and i also add echinchea drops to her bottle or water!! I just got them at the health shop,i think they have helped although she still gets sick!! i'm hoping that she is building up immunity!!

from memory green phlegm/snot is usually bacterial, so trying a different and possibly longer course of antibiotics might work. it sounds like the current antibiotics are knocking the bacteria back but arent quite enough so when they are gone the bacteria multiply again.
