Hello ladies

Apologies if there is already a thread about this, I couldn't find anything under the search function.

I found out yesterday I am pregnant and just cannot wait until 20 weeks to get some idea about what we are having whether we will be blessed with a boy or a girl! I am just rearing to go I want to start clothes shopping straight away! I know I need to be patient lol.

Just wondering if any of you ladies have used the Intelligender? I've read it is 90% accurate.

Your thoughts? Thank you in advance

Apparently a much cheaper version of the test is to buy a red cabbage (sold in 1/2's at most supermarkets), and boil in water, strain off the liquid and mix with equal parts urine (I think FMU is best cos its not affected by anything you've eaten or drunk prior)

Otherwise I have heard of people buying spa pH testing strips and using them instead? They both work on the same principle of testing whether your urine is slightly more acidic or alkaline, one suggesting a girl, the other suggesting boy. If you search the forums for cabbage gender testing you should find the thread with a few peoples results so far all but one (out of those whose outcome is known) have been right!

Then again, if you are happy to pay however much they cost these days (personally I figured I'd much rather spend that money on more baby stuff ) then its defintely something fun to try!

I havent used it, i also dont know much about it.,

There are a few other things you could try before the 20 week scan that wont cost you as much. Of course they arent guaranteed to work but it would be fun anyway.

The Cabbage gender test. There is a thread about this.

Also you can get PH tests, i know you can get them on TM they are just like ov/pg tests. Not sure how accurate these are either but could be worth ago before you 20 week scan.

All i know is that they refund if its not accurate so at least you won't lose money. Except on the clothes, i guess.

If it makes you feel better you're 5 weeks now and have the scan around 20 weeks (some earlier, i had mine at 18w4d) so really you've only got 15 weeks to wait

I know a woman who got a gender test from Australia and did it at 13 weeks... it said girl, they chose a name and told everyone and then at the 20 week scan there was some rather prominent genitalia.... so yeah the test was wrong!!

just be be aware that they arent 100% accurate

you could always make up an ex cuse to have a scan at around 15-16 weeks and find out then :)

i had a scan at this time due to some discharge concerns and we found out then, my cabbage test was wrong though so i had been convinced we were having a wee boy!

good luck! if you do it definately come back and let us know what the result was and if it was correct!

Yep you can do the intelligender from 10 weeks but we did it and it was inconclusive so emailed pics to Intelligender who phoned and said 'yes that's definitely a girl'.

It is most DEFINITELY a boy so I wouldn't waste my money on one if I were you.

Didn't know they did refunds though Bowie, might have to email them back!!

Morning ExcitedMummy!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! A few weeks ago, I was just like you, how soon can I find out, how soon can I test, my Husband asked on the very day we got our BFP when we could find out (someone really wants a boy!).....and like you, I wanted to race out and buy some cute little bits & pieces (nesting!!).

So I've made is 3 weeks, and thought today I might allow myself a treat of buying a one or two gender neutral coloured things (whites, greens, greys, reds etc)....that way I get something I want, and I can wait till 20 weeks. Maybe if you did one treat every week like an incentive to stay patient?!

I figure it's better to wait and get it right first time, than to test, get it wrong, get excited, and then be disappointed at your 20wk scan.

I only have 13 weeks to go....Good luck!

I know 20wks seems like along wait, but believe me the second 20 wks is longer, lots of time for shopping!
We've tried 2 "gender tests". One is a 7yr girl who predicts the gender of her mum's pregnant friends babies and hasn't been wrong yet (about 9 of them), the other is the wedding ring test - where you get someone neutral to hang your wedding from a string over your belly, and the gender is given by how it swings.
For DS both were right. For #2, who knows (both said girl).
My feeling is both those tests are as likely to be accurate as a pH test.
