...and we have a final date set to get things moving I have realised something (as you do when lying awake in the dead of night with aching hips).

I'm suddenly really, really, REALLY nervous about the whole labour labour thing and trying to go through the whole vaginal birth, pain, blood, pushing etc etc (not comforting when people keep saying how big baby is in proportion to me!). So that option is out.

I don't want a c-section...6 week recovery, major abdominal surgary etc...also not appealing. So that option is out.

So now, what was option number 3 again?????!!!!!

Aw you'll be fine!!

I freaked out too just before I went in to labour... but in the end your body takes over.

And there have been plenty of inductions which have resulted in successful vaginal births.

And regarding baby size to your size - I weigh 55kgs and had a 4.26kg baby... normal birth. Apart from me behaving like a fruit loop, it was pretty straight forward... can't imagine that a smaller baby would have been any easier?

If all else fails, you have wonderful medical professionals that will do all they can to help you and Maddie.

It'll all be over soon!

Sending good labour vibes your way....(although i do have to say that even if you end up with a csection, not everyone has a 6 weeks recovery) i was driving again by week 3 (with the blessing of my midwive) because i had recovered so well.

So exciting....not long now till you meet your little one...what an awesome and special experience that is going to be

Paws I have had very VERY similar thoughts lately, must be what most people go through at our stage I suspect... I am so excited about getting baby out and being able to tie my own shoe laces again that I have avoided thinking about all the hard stuff...every now and again I start to think about it and it really freaks me out...but then I just think that so many people have done it a second, third, fourth time etc that it cant be that bad, I mean I am sure it is bad at the time but you only have to do it once and then your girl is here, plus you will have excellent support at the time which will make things more bearable...well thats what I keep telling myself anyway...

I have only done it once and tho I always thought that I will have a natural birth I ended up with a CS. Trust me if you had to have one (Here is hoping you dont) its not as bad as it seems. It took me less than a week to be up and about.....

Like every one had said, your body is programmed to do this and will do its job when the time come. Dont worry

i've been thinking/freaking about the whole labour thing too. jack was an elective c-section, i didn't even go into labour so i'm excited/nervous/scared sh*tless about the pain. but i know i'll handle it and everything will be worth it when you see what you get at the end

and yes, while c-sections aren't favoured by anyone, they aren't that bad. i was up and walking around the next day and recovered really well. best of luck

Paws - you'll be nervous and petrified right up until the point that you are in so much pain and busy labouring that you don't give a crap anymore, then the baby is born and you have a phenomenal endorphin rush that will lead to a dopey grin that lasts for days until the sleep deprivation wipes it off your face (am I sounding positive and upbeat?).
Seriously, your body is in good shape for doing this (better than your hubby's), there'll be lots of support and when it comes time, you'll be focussed, ready and do a brilliant job.

So in short what you are all saying is that there is no third option?

*sigh*

I know I will cope like millions of women before me but yeah....it is still nerve wracking now!

I was induced first time and had a wonderful - well relatively short and no complicationg - labour. And I freaked oput both times - but I was in the process of delivering at the time - saying "I've changed my mind"

I rang the m/w a week before Maya was born begging for a c-sect. She told me to stop being such a sook. But I was so nervous and scared.

But like everyone else has said, it's amazing how your body just "knows" what to do. Am getting nervous again this time, but not as bad.

I spent the first 6 hours of my labour at home stuck on the laundry toilet! Went through transition and dialated to 9 1/2cms! - a tip there "always under estimate the pain". I was totally convinced that as I was such a HUGE SOOK there was no way this was as bad as the contractions were gonna get as I was able to breathe through them (calm deep breaths) so surely they were going to get much worse?!?! They didn't, transition is apparently as bad as they get.

IF (and it's a huuuge IF) you do end up having a CS, I can honestly say - It's really not that bad!
I remember sitting through the CS talk at Antenatal class and getting more and more terrified by the minute!

I was walking around on Day 2, went home on Day 4 and was driving 2 weeks afterwards (thanks to MW).
I recommend lots of Arnica and Rescue Remedy and Orange and Barley Sugar drinks/lollies for your energy, LOTS of love and support from DH, family & friends. Most importantly, lots of bonding with your bubs! In the end, all that mattered to us was that Caitlin was here and was healthy, it didn't matter how she got here.

Remember that the labour bit is the shortest part of this Mummy-ing game and you'll forget all about the nasty bits as soon as you get that first cuddle and they look into your eyes *sniffle*

DH has already forgotten all about his "Shortland St cameo" (aka his theatre scrubs) and wants #2. My memory serves me better! I'm sure I still have the indent of the toilet seat on my butt cheeks!

You'll be fine! If I can do it I reckon ANYONE can!

All the best, can't wait to see piccies of Maddie

I can absolutely remember the point in my (first) pregnancy when it occured to me that the baby was going to have to come out! Unfortunately, it was far too late to change my mind!

It is all worth it in the end and although it may be scary you will be fine. Once in labour you will have no choice but to keep going (although I def requested to go away and come back another day to continue...) and your body will just do it.

You may be surprised with yourself, my birth plan stated "drugged up to eyeballs". I am such a sook when it comes to pain that I wanted one of everything. I ended up with an absolutely drug free water birth? Go figure?

Anyway, you'll be great. Just relax!
Anna
