Topic: Late Night Parties! Posted: 10 June 2011 at 5:00am |
What is that about anyway!!
50% of the time DS will feed himself into a calm state (he never feeds to sleep) and will drop of back in bed by himself. The rest of the time he feeds and then is like OH HI!!! PARTY!! And goes back into bed where he preceeds to make all kinds of loud (happy) noises for up to 3 hours. WTF do i do about all of that? Its not a matter of feeding him more until he is calm because he refuses unfortunatly. He resists rocking, he won't settle in bed with me, and despite lying in pitch blackness for over an hour now he's still going making happy noises. He's even bloody laughing!! It uses to be once in a blue moon and he'd settle after 15min or so but now its nearly every second night and taking hours.
And since we share a room it means i get fudge all sleep as well, hence OBing at 5am

Oh Jacob used to do this so bad! Particularly when he started rolling - one night he was rolling from one end of his cot to the other, and back, and forwards, and back, and forwards, in gales of laughter the whole time. I used to just go to sleep - he's in a different room to us and I could manage it when he was just making happy noises. In his case, he never quite tended to fall straight from 'happy' to 'sleep' - he's usually tire of his game and grizzle for ten minutes, then fall asleep (I knew he'd go to sleep soon, so didn't get him up) and I'd wake when he did that. But it would be hard for you in the same room! I guess at least jacob seems to have grown out of it (and even when he went through phases of it, they never lasted that long) so hopefully Max does too.

Thank GOD it's just a phase...a seemingly non ending phase
Problem is he used to drop off on his own accord, talk himself to sleep but now he's started to grizzle at the end so after laying awake for hours listening to him i then i have to get up and sooth him back to sleep as well!! He refuses to settle without serious help at the moment.

Definitely a phase! We had exactly the same thing happen around 4mths old - went from self-settling to needing help, thought I'd broken him. If you're into reading/research etc, consider the book The Wonder Weeks - it's cheap at the book depository. It's a really good book that highlights the mental leaps that babies make throughout their development. We've just got through the 37 week one and it was just about spot on as is in the book... Very helpful and reinforces that it's them, not you and to just keep on doing what you're doing and it will get better!! (until the next mental leap!)

alot of people talk about that mental leap stuff, ther eis a website somewhere that talks about it too if you dont wanna fork out for the book.
I know wot you mean tho Bowie, I had the squeals of fun today when i put her to bed... followed by grizzles,.... left her for 20mins then she was crying, so boob again then rock to sleepy then down to white noise - trying EVERYTHING to get her to sleep right now! crazy how 3 days ago she was SS with just her thumb knew it was too good to be true!!!! GARRRR!

argh i have no advice as such but i so feel your pain my ds is doing this as well. He used to self settle and now he needs to be cuddled till sleepy then he will fall asleep in bed. But sometimes during the night when he wakes he will crack up laughing and be silly, he can roll both ways and crawl so he will be all over the cot. I havent left him because he just talks louder and louder and louder, and i dont seem to be able to take it or go back to sleep myself but i know i need to try. Its very annoying when ur tired at 3am!

Seems the partying never ends, Mr C was up at 3.30am this morning, ringing people on my cell phone!!
He got put back to bed with a few grumpy words from Mum.
