Maya is number 36! Some of those names are a bit random tho, like Nevaeh - nice name but I wouldn't have thought it is that common?

Sienna and Mercedes don't get a mention although I have heard of a few other baby Sienna's lately, and a couple of other Mercedes ( Kels)

Is it wrong that I'm quite happy Erin's name is right at the bottom? And my first choice for a boy, if we'd had one (and if we have one second time round) is 36, not so bad... second choice for a boys name isn't on the list at all, woohoo !

Found this on the NZ Herald site for top 10 names in NZ for 2006:

Girls:

1 Sophie
2 Kate/Catherine (all spellings)
3 Emma
4 Isabella
5 Charlotte
6 Olivia
7 = Lucy and Emily
9 = Hannah and Jessica

Boys:

1 Jack
2 James
3 Samuel
4 Joshua
5 Benjamin
6 = Matthew, Jacob and Ryan
9 = Thomas and Oliver

Its so annoying as our DD is Charlotte Olivia and our top names for the second one if its a girl are Kate, Isobel and Emma- I obviously like that everyone likes the names we do too but I don't want the kids to be one of 5 in their classes! Luckily our top boys names aren't in there.

Oops didnt read it properly, Addison is number 26 which surprises me, especially since its normally a boys name but i guess lot of people might have got it off Greys Anatomy. I wanted them to have uncommon names. The middles names are super popular so its nice that thier first names arent.
Chloe was my second choice for Addison and thats on there.

OMG Alyssa is 16 When i was pregnant with her i looked through our patient list of 1500 and we didnt have any children that were called Alyssa. Since ive had her ive met about 5 ppl that have called their kids Alyssa. Isnt it funny how names just suddenly get popular. I wanted her to have a name that wasnt very common but turns out it is. Oh well lol

Haha, Olivia and Samuel (what Olivia would have been if she'd had a meat and spuds) are at the top, we actually picked these names because that is the names we liked the most.
It seems that the more popular your name is these days then the more you are likely to be branded: I've known a few Betty's in my time and they are all *&%$'s!
I was actually more interested in a magazine article where it gave out the names of children most likely to succeed.
Samuel's and Charlotte's are more likely to put their heads down and get some work, where as the Lachlans are Makayla's naughty!
I even remember (the magazine article said) that a teacher even said that she can tell how a child is going to react to class work by it's name, the more far out or funnily spelt the name is, the more likely they will have a little trouble.
Personally I don't see there being any harm for Olivia's name to be so popular or even if I had chosen something less popular. For after all our own name will forever be the most sweetest sound we ever hear (even if we dislike it!).

Well Joshua (although we call him Josh) is on there which it always is and I think only one year at school he had another Joshua in his class but spelt different. Brooke is there too and she has never had another one in her class. and Rhyley is on there but spelt differently - riley, middle names are slightly uncommon josh being Blade and Brooke being Dakota. Rhyley one of his middle name on there but not the other - which is more american than the rest.

We thought we had picked an unusual spelling of "Katelyn" (I only looked in one baby book and that was how it was spelt) and we had never heard of it until then. Turns out that the most popular way to spell it is actually "Caitlin" and we are always being told "oh my daughter/granddaugther/niece is called Caitlin too" BLAH!!!

But we still recieved Christmas cards each with a completely different spelling of her name, one even said Catherine

Maya gets called May-a and Mia all the time (it's actually pronounced M-eye-a).

Interesting theory on names dictating behaviour Peace coz my sister has been telling me since before the twins were born that Mercedes is a hookers name

OMG how awful!!!! I hope she is joking!!!
I always think of that movie ferris bullers day off (think it was that one - and god i am showing my age now) and the cute blond chick was mercedes...always think of it as a classy american name like Porsche etc - one given by those with too much money...not a hookers name!!!!

Kobe always gets Toby or Cody and even when they get it right its generally spelt wrong. I thought we would have people calling Addison Maddison but so far only a couple of people have done that.
My neice is a May-a. I love the name Dakota, I wanted that for a girl but hubby vetoed it straight away.
