Topic: Obstetrician in Auckland? Posted: 14 February 2007 at 3:42pm |
Hi there
I am a first time Mum to be (hooray!!) and I am currently trying to find a good obstetrician to be my LMC.
Does anyone have any recommendations or any advice on who possibly to avoid?
It just seems so random to pick one off the Mum 2 Be list when its such an important decision!
Thanks for helping!

I don't know about who to avoid, but I can heartily recommend Neil Pattison as a good OB. I was recommended him by a friend who had a baby late last year, and so far I've seen him twice. He's so reassuring and kind, and he really listens to your questions and goes out of his way to answer them. Oh, and he gives you his mobile number and says ring it anytime - and the friend who recommended him to me said she called him once at 1am when she had some bleeding and he was just as nice as ever!
He works in Parnell in the Birthcare building.

I am with Shore Birth in Takapuna, and am very happy to date, but it's early days! When you use Shore Birth, you use all their obstetricians.

My GYN is brilliant, he does obstetrics also and his name is Paul MacPherson. He works out of the BIrthcare building with Neil Pattison and a heap of others.
My OB with teh twins was Mahesh Harilall, he was OK but I would have rather had Paul (I had to go with Mahesh coz he works in shared care with my midwife). One thing I found great about Mahesh is that he isn't too quick to recommend interventions. He pushed me towards a vaginal delivery the whole way thru even when I wasn't keen and in the end it all worked out brilliantly, bt at the same time he wasn't into taking risks either and always double checked everything.

I can recommend Valeria Ivanova who works with Omni in Remurea - she was very good. She is Russian and has a heavy accent but is good.

Thanks to everyone who posted, the info was really helpful.
I am meeting with Neil Pattison next week so hopefully all goes well and one major job (of many) on the baby list will be sorted.
Thanks heaps!
