Topic: How fast do tummies grow? Posted: 25 February 2007 at 11:36am |
Here's another one for the 'Silly and Paranoid Question Hall of Shame'.
My tummy doesn't seem to have grown much, if at all, in the past three or so weeks, and I'm not sure if that's normal or if I should be worried.
Has your tummy gone through fits and starts of growing? Is it normal for it to stay pretty much the same size for a while?

Yep it's very normal, a lot of mums don't really get a bump as such until nearly half-way (so you'll be there soon!). The only important thing is the fundal height, your mw may not be measuring it yet but when she feels your tummy at your appointments, she'll know whether it's roughly the right height and is growing from appointment to appointment.
Some of the reasons for not a lot of growth in the first trimester are: fast metabolism, morning sickness, weight loss (or breaking even), uterus set further to the back than usual, tall body (from hip to ribs), overweightish mum. None of those are "problems" though.

Well, its only my first but I have noticed the same thing, I tend to go through growth spurts, then stay the same size for a while

I often wondered the same thing. My bump didn't seem to be growing much for ages and ages. I got really worried, but every midwife appointment I'm told I have good growth. I guess you don't really notice it much when you're checking every day. But, yeah, I stayed with my mum for a week a couple of weeks ago and when I saw my DP again, he was like 'WOW, you're tummy is getting huge!"

Yup when i was pregnant with my son i didnt show at all until i was like 6 monthsish (my memory is getting really foggy now!!) but with this bubs i havnt put on any weight (just lost weight!) and my tummy was noticable right from the start!! and it stayed the same for a while there then over the past few weeks its just sprung out!!!!! iv even got the waddle going on now!!!!
Apparently first babies always tend to not show much for the mummies until a bit later but second bubs show alot faster!

I don't think my bump has grown overly much at all, no one seems to believe that I'm as far along as I am. I figure it will catch up to me though hehe

[QUOTE=Mikaela]Here's another one for the 'Silly and Paranoid Question Hall of Shame'. QUOTE]
Am glad someone else thinks like me....just to add to the paranoia thread...here is my latest worry...
As I am overweight (I sit somewhere between a size 18 - 22 normally!! Yikes!!) I am scared that I am not going to look pregnant - just fatter. Stupid I know...but I am absolutley over the moon about being pg, that I want people to know that I am - not just look at me and think I am another overweight chick...(although I am!?!) Does this mke sense or am I just being really stupid? I look at maternity clothes that are XL and think that they wouldnt even fit me now let alone in 6 months when I am going to need them!!!!!
I know its prob made worse by hormones at the moment, but its really upsetting me.

Hey SimSam, I am a size 16-18 normally, and like you I was worried that I wouldn't look very pregnant, and well I didn't for ages, but I didn't seem to look like it was fat either. But from about 20ish weeks onwards, depending on what I was wearing, I had an obvious bump, and my baby bump is hard and round, whereas my normal tummy is all soft and flabby.
You'll get your bump soon! And then everyone will be able to tell that you're pregnant.

I had a bump and looked pg by 8 weeks (to people who knew me) and very pg by 12 weeks (was told I looked closer to 5 months than 3 by some people! thanks!!). But then my bump barely grew until 20wks ... and has been steadily growing again the last few weeks -- so yeah, you will get growth spurts. Its completely normal. and everyone is different.

Thanks ladies - I know I am probably being silly, and I know that everyone is different! Think I am just having a 'fat day' and that makes it worse!
Apparently, people who know me well (ie my mum and DH) have noticed that my boobs are bigger and my step-father commented that I was looking really 'gorgeous' the other day - which was a HUGE suprise as I felt awful - so its prob all in my head!!

Somedays, I feel I look more pregas than others, felt like I really had a bump on saturday and now don't seem to be a big.
My size seems to go up and down.
I would love people to ask when I am due, but just look like I have a lil gut

Often when the baby turns up/down or moves side to side, it can change your proportions a lot.

I have at the moment around 5 bumps down there, and I really can't tell which is which... I have the huge boobs (must go bra shopping). Then I've got the left over muffin from when I had my daughter 4 years ago, never could get rid of it Then I have this bump right above my pelvic area that is kind of harder than the rest....so who knows when my baby bump will appear, and when it does where it will end up

A couple years ago I went from size 14/16 to 12 then back up to a 16 and it seemed to all go to my stomach, so ive been paranoid that im just going to look fat the whole time rather than pregnant, lol.
Im a bit scared about my boobs becoming huge though. lol.
Can anyone tell me how much bigger they do get around abouts? Im a size 16D normally so how much bigger will they get? My ex told me he reckons they have gotten a little bit bigger already (and he would know lol sorry TMI).

I'm a 16D normally, and I still fit all my bras! My breasts have pretty much stayed the same size, they've just gotten heavier.

I am normally (non pg state) an 18E - I have noticed that some of my bras that size are already a little tight. My boobs are definatley a lot 'fuller' already!!!
I have had to buy some sports crop tops to wear to bed as they have been incredibly painful - but hopefully this wont last the entire time!!

I'm normally a 12E, have gone to a 14F!! And I know they're only going to get bigger!!!!
I think I looked pregnant from about 12 weeks on. I've definitely got a bump now, although, with all the bread I'm eating I'm sure it's a bit of fat too!!!!
