Topic: Cough Splutter Sniffle Posted: 03 March 2007 at 8:06pm |
Advance warning.....am about to moan!!
Am all blocked up, headachey and snuffley - have got a cough and am really grumpy now. Normally I would pop a codral or have a lemsip - but obviously cant at the moment.
Feeling very sorry for myself at the moment... Anyone got any miracle cures?

Thanks ladies - I just made myself home-made lemsip (lemonade, honey and lemon juice zapped in microwave) - think I will take a couple of panadol before I go to bed, (think my Dr told me that Panadol was okay) then will try and get to the chemist in the morning.
Thanks for all the advise.

If you are really blocked up there is a nasal spray you can take. I got the stupid stuffed up cold in the first few weeks of both my pregnancies and spoke with the people in the chemist and told them I was pregnant and they gave me the nasal spray. Took a day to kick in but once it did total relief.

Yip panadol is fine, but be aware if you buy lemsip that it has paracetamol in it too, so dont double up. As for nasal sprays, the company doesnt recommend it but in my opinion, there is such a small amount absorbed into the bloodstream its ok if you are desperate.
Heaps of vitamin C is my tried and true remedy/preventative and it is safe in pregnancy to take the normal adult doses. Which if you are sick is up to 10 000mg a day, yes I did type 10 000mg.
By the way Im a pharmacist if you were wondering

My doc and mw have okayed occassional use of nasal sprays (where the cure outweighs any potential risk) and also panadiene when desperate.
Poor you, I hope Mr Simsam is running around after you taking good care of you!

Thanks again for all the advice! Had a pretty rough night - seemed to sleep in 20min intervals...yuck! Was couging a lot - which I have to monitor pretty carefully as I have asthma.
My wonderful DH has been doing a FANTASTIC job of looking after me, he really is awesome, I am very lucky!! He went down to the chemist this morning and talked to the pharmacist - came home with strepsils, panadol and a nasal spray which is effectively just a saline solution. Am starting to feel a little better but still pretty rugged. He is busy heating up lasagne for tea - what a gem!

Hi Yalanna - I am feeling a whole lot better, but still have a very annoying cough on a night when I am trying to sleep. I have been taking extra vitamin C, so hopefully that is helping. Panadol is fine to take, so you might find that helps. To be honest the nasal spray that I got didnt seem to do too much, but it may have helped. I hope you have a DH / DP to take care of you. Make sure you drink lots of fluids!!
Get well soon!

Thanks simsam, am slowly getting better, as for DH he is next to useless, doesnt look after me at all when I am sick. Must stop being a capable independant woman and start acting feeble, maybe that will work...ha ha!
