Topic: BSDH and A and E visits! Posted: 07 May 2007 at 10:29pm |
yep spent all afternoon at the clinic...BSDH had chest pains around lunch time and was rushed off to a and e with suspected heart attack....yep!!!
So i went down and releived his poor PA from her mercy run...and as i left waiting room to go to his room Gabriella did her holding breath trick - three times. The second time a nurse over heard me telling her to stop it and shake the pod...she came over to see if i was ok and ella did it again - in front of her....I am kinda pleased someone else saw it finally. She said she thought ella was going blue...I say red....but she was def holding her breath...OMG at 8 weeks old!!!!
well she was ok...took her outta pod and ended up holdoing her and trying to get her to sleep for the next 3 hours plus...she needs a BF poop and is miserable so it was joyous time!
BSDH was hooked up to monitors etc...and on oxygen...BP was sky high!!! Had bloods done (glad it wasnt me for a change) and had to wait for results. He has had a sore wrist for a week and been trying to make him go to docs, so doc made him take x ray - at my insistence - figured while he was there.....might be a scaiffoid but not showing yet.....
funny thing is BSDH usually tu-tus with everything...well he was so hooked up to machines he couldnt move much - which of course drove him nuts...and i had to sit there and watch and try and get a baby to stop crying etc...UGH!!!
anyways around 5pm (he went in at noon!!!) tests all came back in and he was cleared...seems only high BP did this....OMG!!!! seriosuly thought he was gonna have a heart attack on us. He is a BIG guy and who knows.....
i wish i wasnt breast feeding cause i would go have a heap of drinks after today!!! someone please have a strong one for me ok!

Man, Bombshell, you have been through the wringer today! I'll go have a nice stiff drink for you right now, and will owe you one for when you're done breastfeeding. Poor you, poor BSDH, and poor Baby Bombshell. NOT how you wanted to start the week, eh?
Is Gabriella doing the breath-holding thing often? (Man, I am so behind the times!) Emma Rose does that, too -- nice way to scare the hell out of me. I've read that it's related to low iron levels -- not that it's caused by iron deficiency, but that it can be related. We've had Em's iron levels checked and since I ramped up the iron in her diet, she hasn't had them quite so often. But the breath-holding thing SUCKS.
I meant to ask, do you have a GP for her? Because I've found a lovely one for Em who has an almost one-year-old herself, and even has a diploma in pediatric medicine. AND she never makes me feel like an idiot for coming in three times in one week with the same problem. PM me if you're interested and I'll give you the details.
Now that I've totally glossed over BSDH's health, I'll come back and say BIG hugs to both of you. You're under so much stress as new parents and I can only imagine how scary that must have been. Did the docs give any ideas for reducing his stress levels at all, or is it the same-old, same-old "lose weight, exercise, eat better, sleep more, work less" spiel I always get? Let us know if you need anything -- is there anything we OHbabyers can do to take the load off a bit? Besides give hugs, of course, which I am doing RIGHT NOW!

Oh Bombshell, I have SO been there! My DH had a heart attack almost 3 years ago (at age 23), so I know how absolutely terrifying it can be. I can't imagine having a breath-holding baby thrown into the mix as well!
Big hugs, ok? Don't forget to take some time to catch YOUR breath, that's really important.

Oh man, seems you had one hell of a day. I am glad it wasnt an heart attack.
I actually can give you lots of tips on bringing that BP down naturally. Mine went skyhigh before pregnancy (more stress related) and I get symptomatic when it just rise slightly. Hard drugs didnt help at all and we decided to throw it out and go natural.
Brought it down within a month and I go on the "special plan" whenever I start feeling it rise up.
PM me if you want me to give you details. Helped me a lot.
Hope you get answers on holding their breath. I know Grants brother did it and the only advice they got is to actually blow into their face and they will get startled and start breathing again.
McKayla use to turn totally blue in some part of her body but was still breathing. freaked the cr*p out of me. Luckily her pedi said it was normal and that lots of babies do that and it is due to.... long medical explanation, no need to bore you.
He actually said some babies bottom half or one of their sides will turn totally blue and the rest be totally normal. Still have to get it checked out but in most cases it was normal.

yeah the nurse said and did - blow on her...same effect as giving her a jar / shake to stop it...and yes i think they came over cause they heard me telling an 8 week old baby to stop it....but was good outcome as someone else saw it...
BSDH knows he should lose weight but telling him that all the time stresses me out and gets him all uptight - we want him to be here to see Ella grow up and wish sometimes he would take heed of that...
he has had high BP for years....yes diet and exercise is always the advise offered - and he says he wants to go to the gym and has started taking dogs out more for a walk etc....but he ate along with me during pg which didnt help. His job is really stressful at moment...he is the national manager and has some crappy staff not helping out....so firing staff might help his stress levels...LMAO!!!!
he seems ok today despite being up since 5am not being able to sleep....fingers crossed he stays ok and takes some advice so he is here for ELla always.

Wow Bombshell!!!! You did have a huge scary day!!! I hope BSDH is better now, and they gave him something or some advice about his BP - I know my dad is on some heavy duty BP reducing pills (he also has Angina so its real important he takes them) but hopefully there is more natural things you guys can do about it.
And BBS giving you more shocks by holding her breath - you've really had a day!!!!! Hope it all gets better. And Tell BSDH to relax and put his feet up (while helping you as well ).

Big hugs BS - these men of ours sure know how to give us a fright! I'm pleased it was 'only' BP - but maybe it will be enough to shock him into taking things a bit easier at work and trying to reduce some of the stress. Firing staff sounds like a great way to let off steam
And as for BBS, looks like she is in on it with her Daddy to make Mummy as stressed as possible in the shortest amount of time possible. Little monkey! None of my girls ever held their breath (that I know of) but Mercedes was my little blue baby and it scared me many a time.
Oh the joys of being a wife and mother I'll make sure I bring coffee when I come to drop the nappies off - sounds like you need it (or a stiff gin, but I'm guessing that's not allowed )

I was thinking about him last night, wondering what was wrong....glad he is ok.
I went to Middlemore several times with chest pains and they came up with nothing and then one day they told me I have high BP...I ended up as a high risk pregnancy because of it. I know how scary it can be when those chest pains start. I hope he feels better soon!!
Ella...STOP SCARING YOUR MUM!!!

Bombshell for you and your little family. Must have been a huge scary thing for you to go through. Glad that BSDH is ok and that someone else saw Gabriella do her no breathing thing. My nana used to do the blow on the baby's face thing. It works a treat. Hope that she stops doing it soon.

Oh bombshell how stressfull for you, glad BSDH is ok. Maybe this will be the little scare he needs to take better care.
My DH is a big man too. He gets really grumpy if I mention anything about this weight, his food intake and his lack of exercise. Then at other times he says I should say something I just can't win. The most annoying thing is when he has had full medicals in the past he comes back looking pretty good all the Dr ever says is he's over weight. But he's 38 Maori and over weight so is in the high risk group for heart problems.
Now as for Baby Bombshell thats very naughty scaring your mummy like that. Little Miss Ella give your mummy a break she's been though quite enough now!!

I've got one of those too, only 10 years older with high blood pressure and high cholesterol and a family history of diabetes and heart disease.
Gotta love these bullet-proof males
