I got a phone call from my OB's secretary a few weeks ago asking why I hadn't paid the second $1000 for my care while I was pregnant with the gremlins. I told her I'd never received a bill, and it turns out they had the wrong address which is bollocks coz they had the correct phone number AND they sent me ultrasound reports to this address during my pregnancy.
So they sent me a bill to the right address and I sent a claim off to Southern Cross who paid $975. I was going to give them a call and ask them for an invoice for the last $25 so I could pay it.

Today I got a bill in the mail for $25 BUT it wasn't just a bill - it also said "you have ten days to settle this account before we commence recovery action" AND it had a big, nasty-as bright yellow "OVERDUE" sticker on it showing in the address window so that the postie and all in sundry can see that I obviously don't pay my bills on time.

So I'm feeling pretty bugged - for one thing it's not my fault it's taken so long for them to send me a bill, and of the original $2000 there is $25 outstanding. Get over it! Are they going to take me to court over it? I'm tempted not to pay it and see what happens...

Sounds like it's right up there with the $0.01 cent IRD keeps bugging me for on my student loan (I kid you not).

Take in $25 on the tenth day with a note. Remind them that you never received the original bill, not due to your error, and that you have twins (as they should see on their file). $25 is not that much (thankfully you didn't have to pay the full amount ) but I can understand your bug-bear |

Perfect idea! Make sure you pinch the gremlins on the way in so they let out a squak....no don't |

Also remind them that their "recovery fee" for this $25 (from the debt collection agency) would be more than the $25 to begin with......
 Silly people!!!

ring the office and complain to the administrator that they have wasted time and money chasing this up, when they should have dealt with it properly in the first place and remind them that you have twins to look after and have (most likely) referred people to them over time and yet they chase you and immediately want to refer you to debt collection...
or write them with the same and attach a cheque....and see if it gets banked....

the nerve of them! but is not uncommon...and must admit i have baycorp listed people who have P me off for $40...esp where they underpaid a BIG bill on purpose...

dh got a tax bill last year for $1.55. for real. so we waited till 4.15pm on the last day that the old coins were accepted as legal tender and went and paid it in small coins. mostly 5s but some 10s too.   so they wouldnt have been able to bank them mwahahahahaha!
about 5 days later we got the letter saying they had wiped the bill as it was under the threshold of worth collecting. but we had already paid it i would take in the twins money boxes, and pay in coins |

I would take it all in in coins too...and then stand there and painstakingly count it all out on the desk in front of them....with the twins and Maya in tow!!! Oh and wait until about 1645 one afternoon when they are trying to go home...preferably a friday!!    |

Even better -- take in the old 5 cent pieces, if you've got any! Better yet, any of the "old" coinage!!! |
