1st scan today and was wondering how much water you have to drink beforehand?? I remember drinking far too much last time and was in major agony waiting to go into the scan... then they had to do an internal scan as they baby was lying a funny way!
My MW said don't overdo it cos you don't want to be uncomfortable while they are poking and prodding. I think I used to drink about one 'pump' bottle over the hour before the scan...definitely don't start too early as just being preggers alone makes you want to go to the loo more than you're used to!
When I had my first scan at just over 6 wks the lady said the same as what Topsy got told. She also said I had a nice full bladder which is clearly visible on the scans!! (nice).
Stacey, you must've done so well to hold that amount of water during your scan!
I had mine on tuesday and drank two glasses of water in the hour before and was dying to pee as they ususally run slightly late. I wouldn't over do it as its not pleasant! There is always water there if they think your bladder isn't full enough.
Or you have the problem like me where my bladder was too full! I was almost bursting and the scanning lady told me to go the toilet cause my bladder was more or a hindrence (sp?) than a help!
Both scans I had to go and empty my bladder because it was too full. Next time round I dont think I will bother at all, just make sure that I havent gone to the loo for about an hour before the scan
i was jsut told not to empty bladder for an hr before scan and to not drink to much.
i was asked to empty my bladder at my scan when i was pregnant with haleigh as i had over done it with the water. (oops )
At Ascot you only need a full bladder for early scans. 12 week scans do not need any prep at all, so you don't have to drink anything. Funny how different places have different rules like that.
I might be fuzzy on the details but I think I was told to just not go to the loo for an hour before the scan. I don't remember being uncomfortable with it.
For all places in Christchurch, the form says to empty bladder 2 hours prior, then drink only clear fluids (1 litre) an hour before the scan. I would go slightly less too.
My doc said for my early scan, to just come with a full bladder. I think they state it for the people that may not know how full their bladder is? Surely if you pay enough attention over the next few days, you'll soon work out when your bladders full, but not too full.
