Topic: Hhhm, a little bit off - i think. Posted: 30 May 2007 at 7:28pm |
Hey all you ladies. Just a wee small message.
As most know I make lovely warm snuggly carseat/buggy bags. From these, I make, AT MOST $5 - $10 once I have paid for zips and cotton and material etc. What I do, I do out of kindness and because all you guys are like the family I don't always have and help keep me sane.. and it's a bit of an outlet for my insane housewifey boredom sometimes.
Anyway, this aside. I have had a little note from an anonymous person to say that someone whom I have made one of these cuddlies for.. is doing the same and underselling me. I have yet to find evidence to back this up at all, and am hoping that I never do.
I can't stop you, I have no rights or patents or whatever the heck you need. I can't bagsy the oh-baby ladies, lol.. am not like that. All I am saying is please, don't rip off my idea.. If you feel you need to copy, at least change them a little, this is something I have worked on the design for since long before Paris was born, nearly around 5 yrs or so. It is my idea, my intellectual property.
Am not a grumpy person, am not a person who makes trouble, everyone knows that, but I don't like being taken advantage of either.
Just saying, have a little decency, whoever it is, if it's anyone at all. I made it for you with kindness, not to have idea stolen.
Am hoping there is no-one who would do that kind of thing, if there is, good luck to them in competing with the market.. I have never taken this further as I like to make things as affordable as possible, therefore basically charge for materials only and enough over for a block-a-chocy. lol To make these full time, to market.. would mean the cost rises hugely and who's going to buy homemade when the buggy companies sell them for not too much more.
Sorry ladies for the rant... just hope it's nothing, otherwise think that it's just a bit off really.

This really sucks when people do this. I've watched one friend get very badly hurt by the same sort of thing happening (only on a bigger scale) and it is really horrible.
I hope the person does at least have the decency to change the design and not rip you off.
Big hugs to you!

Grrr!! I know what you mean though, I am trying to sell some kids clothes I make and I don't want to charge too much, as people won't be able to afford them.. and you can buy things at Pumpkin Patch for not much more! So I don't really charge for the time and effort involved.. but I like doing it.
I will buy one from you in the future! I know a few people having babies late this year I think they are really cool, and even though I can sew myself, I like supporting other NZ mums too!

It's not me - I can't even sew one of hubby's buttons back on his shirt properly - I think you're incredibly talented to do those bags Janine - we are still loving our Connor monkey-moo sack.

It's funny how when people say they can't sew, that they can't sew buttons well.. as I find sewing buttons difficult too lol

buttons are a real pain in the buttocks! hence why, until i replaced them a few weeks back.. my old winter pj's had 1 button on them, and had a hole that had grown so darn large, on the back of the pants.. that it stretched down from the bum to my knee and i fell out of my pants most of the time. lololol. i only ever wore them to bed.. but yeah.. even me, who can sew.. can't do buttons or fix my own stuff,.

To the person who thinks its cool to rip off other peoples ideas!!! I can sew too, but my ideas and designs for stuff is always radically different from what other people have on the market. I see a gap, then fill it. It would so peeve me off if someone did that to me...
I hope the person stops doing this, or gives Janine a cut of the profit seeing as it was her pattern to begin with.

I think if someone was doing it for their peosonal use that would be differnt, but to be making money off it that is just so wrong.
