Topic: DID something good that backfired.argh!! Posted: 29 July 2007 at 11:47am |
Thought Id share this with you...
My BIL had been having a bad time with one of his co workers who was also the onsite manager if his workplace... He had told her but didnt change anything...
So I decided that I should send a complaint to the company on behalf of another person. I just made up a name..
I went to send it and it didnt work so I thought better of it and leave it for BIL to sort out himself..
A week later I get a call from my sister asking if I had sent an email to BIL's boss and I said no cos I didnt think it had sent. but when she told me what was on the letter it sounded just like mine. Sh**!!!
Anyway the boss ha replied to my email in whichI didnt know cos I hardly checked that account. I went in and checked it and there it was, an email asking for me to leave a number so he could call. Holy cow!!! What do I do now and after hearing BIL was accused of setting the whole thing up I freaked.
So anyway it gets worse....
My hubby rang and pretended he was the email sender and making out he didnt know BIL at all and that he didnt want to take the complaint any further... The boss accused hubby of being BIL... The boss rang us at 1030pm at night !! ANyway he trcked hubbys mobile phone and rang it and hubby answered as his name...
Oh no!!! The boss threatened to involve the police and BIL will lose his job etc.... OH no!!! I was a mess. Stress!!!!
So hubby rang back and confessed to the boss but the boss said he will still take it further.... with BIL...
Hubby went and saw BIL first thing next morning to tell him what happened as he did not have any idea. Poor bugger!!!!
He has a meeting with the boss tomorrow to decide whether he keeps his job or not...
Now What I did was wrong (fraud I guess) but it was only coming from my heart and I didnt think an anoymonous letter could get us into trouble. It just back fired on me big time..
I dont believe BIL could lose his job over this especially since he had nothing to do with it. I think that would be unfair dismissal and my hubby and I are prepared to fight if we have to...
Bugger that email sending. Learnt my lesson now thats for sure.
Shame we gt such a w**** of a man to deal with....

BIL fine with us.. He was just a bit angry as it was behind his back.. I understand his anger but I didnt even think it had sent.... Hes ok now .
Im crossing my fingers for him tomorrow.....
Just thought Id share this with you ladies... and see what your opinions are.

I hope it works out ok. Your heart was in the right place and I bet you won't do it again. I think everyone is human and makes mistakes - I know I make plenty!

no advice here but I hope the meeting goes well. Maybe you could send an email of apology, just briefly saying that it was your idea, the BIL didn't know anything about it, you decided not to send it and didn't realise it had actually sent. eek what a mess

Bugger Kell! I'm sure BIL knows that your heart was in the right place and you were only trying to help. Fingers crossed the boss sees things your way.

i think you should front up to the boss and explain the whole thing to him yourself and stop hiding behind others.
He may get fired if the boss believes that he was behind it and he may not have a leg to stand on either, unless you can show he had no idea what you were doing.

It is awful when things like that happen, when you know you've stuffed up and got caught out. I'm sure its happened to all of us to some degree!
Its awesome that BIL isn't holding it against you and I really hope things work out for him.
I'd ask him how he'd feel about you going in and owning up about it to the boss, whether it would help his case?
Good luck chicka!

Dunno if anyone else has thought of this but why would you want to work for anyone that horrible in the first place? If it were me, even if I really needed the job/money, I woulndt work for someone so obviously unpleasant. What a strange guy.
He theoretically cannot fire him over something that was not instigated by him. And while you cant prove he was clueless to your actions, the boss cannot prove otherwise. It would be unfair dismissal, and he would have every right to fight it. But as I said, if it were me, I would quit, he clearly is a crappy boss.
Best of luck to you and him, your heart was in the right place, even if your best intentions went astray.

Hey all...
Well the meeting went well for BIL.. he didnt get fired and didnt even get a warning and everyone happy... The bos rang my hubby again while BIL was in the meeting and asked 20 questions.... He said did he realsie he can take legal action and hubby said yes but weve apologised and it just got out of hand... The bos said thanks an hung up.. Havnt heard anything since but hoping we dont get any legal letters in the mal.. I think we will be fine cos it would just cost him money and hed belaughed outta court...
he reckons he tracked down a man with the same name in the same place (Auckland) who worked in the same job as hubby mentioned... What a liar....
Anyway all good so far.....
Thanks for your thoughts
