Topic: What does your child take everywhere with Posted: 23 September 2005 at 3:22pm |
Here's a new one... i thought we could all share what things our kids take everywhere with them, take to bed etc.. it's funny to see so many different things kids get attached to. Ayja has her Jammie bear, which you can see in her ticker. Paris has a tommee tippee bunny blankie... 3 of them to be exact so no tears when they need washing of if one gets misplaced or left in the car at night.
What can't your child live without?

How old are kids when they start to get attached to something? Joey is still to young to realise what is around him really I think.

Paige has her teddy and it has to go to bed with her every night! I think Paige was about 9 months when I gave her teddy to cuddle in bed, it might have been earlier I can't remember, but a friend gave it to her when she was born.
Ayja looks so cute with jammie!

Maya has "Fuzzy Bubba". My sister bought it for her when she was born, and I started putting it in the cot when she was about 7 mths when I took the Safety Sleep out. I thought it would give her a sense of security. We called it "Dolly", then when Maya started to talk she called it "bubba" then it became Fuzzy Bubba because it is kind of fuzzy looking.
We weren't as onto it as you guys tho Janine, we only have one Fuzzy Bubba. After she got attached to it we bought another one exactly the same, but Maya isn't having a bar of it. She calls the new one "fake bubba" lol. And fake bubba is much whiter and cleaner than fuzzy bubba.
Fuzzy used to go to daycare for when Maya had her sleep, but now that she doesn't have a daytime sleep Fuzzy waits for Maya in the car instead. We even had a proper "leaving day" for Fuzzy with a cake and all the kids sung "Happy Leaving Day" to Fuzzy to help Maya understand that Fuzzy was going to be staying home from now on.

Aw that is so cute Emma, i can just imagine. Since paris got attached to her pretty early on we went and got 2 more, and just let her have all of them, but only 1 was allowed to go out with us, lol, so they were, (and still are) all suitably worn-out. she has just started to throw bunny out of bed now and take other things, and more often that not she will choose to take dolly or polly pocket to play with in the car now... but if she's hurt or upset or tired, bunny is always first.
Ana, we always decided that if our kids had to have something to get attched to, then we would rather have it be something small, not a whole blanket or something like that! so with paris we had been given her bunny, and started putting that in the cot with her, and once she was about 3 months started cuddling it down beside her. when we went out i would put it in the carseat next to her in case she got bored, and soon she got attached to it. we have done the same with Ayja..Paris and mike brought her 2 jammies when she was born as paris's present to her. some people said its mean to deliberately get them attached to something, but as i said, i would rather it be small and portable, and hey, at least they will always have something that comforts them.

I tried putting an dumbo toy i got from disneyland in qwith jake, but we've found that he tries to use any stuffed animals to lcimb and escape from his cot. he is strangely obsesed with the plunger and drags it around the house with him. I draw the line at letting him outside with it though. Honestly, I'm thinking of getting him a plunger for xmas in NZ

Ella wont go to sleep without one her her silky blankies. She loves the feel of satin. I made her a blanket with satin edge, plus a smaller one with satin one side and polar fleece the other side. I bought her a satin pillowcase too! She has also been known to cart around a pair of daddys (clean!) boxer shorts, or a silky nighty of mine, or even her jacket with satin lining - all with thumb in mouth hehehe
Pillowcase, blanket, and my nighty!

Maya chews Fuzzy's ears (it has bunny ears) or the fringe of cloth around Fuzzy's face. LOL at the way she does it tho - with her tongue out just like she used to breastfeed!
She has a huge collection of soft toys in a hammock above her bed, but she has a 'selection' of faves in her bed which change from day to day. Atm, she has Barney, 2 Baby Bops, BJ, a full set of the McD's Heffalump toys, red ted, yellow ted, pink ted, Fuzzy Bubba, a polar bear, a koala, a crocodile and an elephant.
And no, there isn't much room left for her...

We got Eeyore. Only one tho, or I could send you it We've got 2 Heffalumps and 2 Piglets tho.
Ok, so it sounds like Maya has waaaay too much McD's, but in fact those toys were so cool that every time we went there I bought extras so we could get the whole set.

I'm not so into the Neopets, mainly because you have to open them to see what you get! Soooooo not into surprises! And when I took Maya and her two friends to McD's and asked for the same toy for all of them to save argument they couldn't do it. We ended up with 2 red ones and a blue one, so then there were tears...
But I did love the My Little Pony's they hd. We've got 2 full sets they go with the Little People.

yeah we got the ponies too.. and paris decided she liked my little ponies, hence the pony cake for her birthday... we told a few people she liked them, and that we were having the pony cake and for her birthday she got 6 my little ponies!! everyone obviously decided that since she liked them they would buy her some. a coupld were double packs and a couple of singles. so now she has enough to sink a ship... and spends alot of the time playing with them on the fridge since they have magnets and stick to the fridge... she thinks it's great!.. i on the other hand have to watch out for rogue ponies each time i want something to drink!

While we were in Australia I saw these Pooh and Tigger computer learning games for ages 3-6 for only $10 so I bought one for Maya. We set it up yesterday afternoon, and oh boy does she love it! She screamed the place down for about an hour when I told her it was time to turn it off! And the first thing she said when she woke up this morning was "Mama, can I play Pooh now?".
