Hi everyone,

My sons first birthday is fast approaching and I'm undecided wheather to have a small get together for friends and family or to have a big party with little ones as well?

I would love to hear what others have done, and what you would recommend.

Cheers

Ive always done a combo of friends with kids and babies and family and a party at home with the usual suspects (cheerios, sausage rolls, fairy bread) Just the one party is enough and quite often we would have a bbq later for the adults

We just invited family and close friends. Will save the kids party for his second birthday or maybe even third.

I am busy toying this up too. With M we had family over with their kids but I was running after all of them and didnt spent much time with her. And then she was a bit tired towards the end.

So this time I am very tempted to have a smash cake in the morning with his prezzies and basically have cake for breakfast and then just take him out for the day and perhaps go eat out or have a picnic. And make the day about him.

But I got so so many cool ideas for a party.

At one their 'friends' are actually your friends and family that have kids of a similar age. We invited our friends and their children to join us at McDonalds, shouted the kids happy meals, the adults a coffee and let the kids run around the playground. I took a cake, and as it turned out one of the party rooms was empty so we could use that and have a bit of privacy. It was fun, low key, no stress and fairly affordable.

We don't have any family where we are so we had close friends (would have had family as well if they weren't so far away). Most of our close friends have babies or young children as well, so it was definitely a kid-friendly party but we had adult party food and a few wines/beers for the grown ups as well

We basically worked out a time that was good for us and Callum (3-5 so it didn't coincide with nap time and would encourage the majority of people to leave on time to feed their own kids!) and kept it all fairly simple. Callum had a ball, I had fun making a cake and it was a really nice way to get all our friends together for a catch up and to celebrate Callum's first year!

im just in the process of organising Corys 1st birthday.

inviting the same ppl i did for Rhiannons, plus about 6 extras.

I am holding at the local church hall and because Cory is wheat and egg free...having a slightly healthier party.

There will be about 10kids and 20 adults

We just did a family brunch/BBQ with family for the first birthday. I have 4 neices and nephews in CHCH all around the same age so they were there as well.

It was nice keeping it small. It can get overwhelming for little ones. It was really more for the adults anyway. H & E went down for a nap after lunch so the adults sat around having a few afternoon beers lol. I loved making the girls their first cake though :)
