Topic: PCOS and Weight Loss. Posted: 21 April 2010 at 7:37pm |
I am fricken sick of trying to lose weight only to just keep going up and down between 80.5 and 79.3kgs. It does my head in!
Has anyone with PCOS had success with any weight loss programme etc as am starting to get upset and lose my motivation.
Thanks

Sorry, I have no words of wisdom but feel for you. I'm in the same boat. One thing you could try though is Apple cider vinegar. Often PCOS women have insulin resistance. Taking 2T of ACV before meals helps process the sugars. Everytime I take it I find I can maintain weight, or lose it if I'm trying (any other time I just continue to gain)
The same school of thought means eating lower GI foods and not so much processed foods, as they are higher in sugar or sugar substitutes.
check out www.soulcysters.com, it has heaps of info if you do a search.

I have PCOS and had great success with Jenny Craig I was 84kg I lost 10kg in 8 weeks. That was almost 18 months ago. I know I've put 2kg back on lol but am gearing up to lost another 10kg this winter :)
JC is expensive but it's a great way to lose it fast and the meals were so much better than I expected.

Peanut it is very very hard. I had bulimia and anorexia as a teenager student days. When I got over it I just picked up weight even though I was eating a real healthy diet. But at the same time my exeercise went right down. We had the mc's and then saw a Dr and was diagnosed with PCOS. AFter that I realised it will be hard to lose weight.
But we stuck to it and I was able to lose 13kg and concieve McKayla naturally. AFter her birth I didnt really lose and Andrews pregnancy weight piled on and then I lost just half of that.
But to be quite honest from McKayla's pregnancy my diet is not considered that healthy. I eat a lot of fruit and veg but at the same time a lot of junk too. It is almost as I gave up.
In saying that I started to watch a bit more of what I am eating. And I started up with the stationary bike and starting with the home gym too. And I am definately seeing something happening. It is starting to shift. It goes down and then slightly up again and then down again. But it is not going up as fast as before and as soon as the exercise is not happning then nothing happens. I dont think I can do this food wise on its own at all. I am going to have to work every inch off. Now with exams it is taking a backseat and I see already that I am not losing and as soon as my choices is not as healhty then it is going up again.

I dont have pcos but I did have a barrier that I hadn't been able to break. For years I had tried to get under 70kg. I definitely had the weight to loose, certainly the fat. I'd always get close but then I'd fluctuate between 71-74kg. In the weight loss thread I bitched about it.
I just thought that under 70kg was impossible for me. Id failed prior to having kids and that was going to the gym every day.
I think you have to figure out what will get you over the hump. I have other things working against me but in the end it was swimming that got me down to 67.9kg just before I found out I was preggers again. And when I was making sure at least half of all my meals were either fruit or vege that makes a big difference also. I ate very little bread. There will be something out there that will work for you.

I totally agree with Kebakat - I found walking awesome - uphills was best - and intend to go back to it after this babe is born
I also found a food diary helpful, its harder to justify that little treat or that little bit too much here and there when its written down - everyday is not a treat
I think you just haved to be tougher on yourself - its hard work, but learn to love lean protein , eat more eggs, less bread - no butter or cheese - its quite simple really just hard to do day in day out
Thats what worked for me anyway - and taking note of what your drinking - those nescafe coffee things are my downfall right now!

maybe you have been doing the same thing for too long?
change it for a day or 2 , try a different form of excercise?
I once worked with a girl who pigged out on bread and butter once a month or so to shock her body into fat burning again - her brother was a body builder and used this method too
maybe there is such a thing as too disciplined?

I was doing that also which is why I got so highly pissed off about my weight not moving. I had to really shock my body into beginning to let it go again. By shock I ditched all my cardio and went to the pool and swam as much as I could. I was doing 5km a week minimum. One day I even did 3km (i was bored).
