Topic: Panadol during pregnancy Posted: 17 July 2006 at 11:35am |
Morning ladies,
Not sure if a thread has come up before regarding the above, but does taking panadol during pregnancy affect the baby? For the last week I have had a really bad cold and have had to take some Panadol (4 maximum per day). Cold is still pretty bad and going to see doctor after work today Any advice would be appreciated.

As far as I know, Panadol is safe to take while pregnant... in fact, for the 5 days before I had the first half of my root canal done, I was living on the stuff! Check with your doctor, but you should be fine.

Totally safe - when I had flu and had to go into hospital for my chest infection a few weeks ago they were giving me 2 panadol every 6 hours (8 per day), and my midwife said it is perfectly safe too...! Infact they told me when I left hospital to keep taking the panadol for the next few days even though i had no headache just to make sure my temperature was down, high temp is bad for baby, and panadol brings it down...
YOu are doing the right thing!

Yep, I've been advised to take it when needed, just to stick within the dosage recommended on the pack. A fever is more of a hassle for your bubs than panadol, which will squash a fever down a bit. I took it for headaches and my midwife was cool with that.

I've jsut gotten over whatever I had and panadol helped alot. Stick to the doseage 2 every 4-6 hours and your fine. Infact when I was in hospital while still pregnant with Andrew they were handing out the panadol like it was going out of fashion.

I'm sure my search for this thread just saved my life (ok, little exaggeration there!)
Have been dying for the last few hours, but off to take some panadol now! Yay!!

Yup, I was in agony for about three weeks with my wisdom teeth coming through over Christmas. I took panadol every four hours or so and sometimes even more, just to go to sleep. I shouldn't have taken so much, but I figured it was better for me and baby to get a good night sleep rather than lay awake in tears all night.
And I had my scan yesterday and everything was great and baby was healthy. I felt kinda guilty taking over 8 a day, so now I just stick to 1 at a time.
Hope it kicks in soon!
