Topic: Safety 1st Capsule parts?? Posted: 12 May 2010 at 10:18am |
So we bought a brand new capsule, but its missing a couple of parts (which we presume was in the box, which got thrown out by the shop- we got the display model which someone didn't put together right). We got it cheaper cos it was the display model and its The Warehouse and they don't seem willing to help us get new parts...
Its the wee clips that are held in by the handle, and the hood clips into them, its only 2 wee plastic things, basically a wee circle with a sticky outy piece on it so they clip together (so can push hood back and forward)
Does anyone know where in NZ I can get the parts from...??
We tried emailing the states for them (off their website) but haven't heard back... I wanna get it sorted ASAP as I'm due at start of July- and time is going by awfully fast! It just seems dumb not being able to use the hood on it, especially in a Southland winter!!
Or does anyone know of a Safety 1st capsule thats expired that we could have the parts off (we are more than happy to pay for them and pay postage aswell)
ETA: Oops, should have put this in the product reviews piece? My bad. Can move it if someone wants, but it might get more foot traffic in the general thread...

The Warehouse should be more helpful... even if its the display model they can't sell something that is faulty or unable to do the job it is advertised to be able to do due to missing parts. - Fair Trading and Consumer Gurantees Act all protect you.
I'd go back to the Warehouse and speak to a manager and get them to find the parts for you. This is horrendous service on their part. - Fair Go would have a field day with this one.

We only paid $80 for it- the exact same capsule at Farmers brand new was $299!!! It was the display model so they are sure the parts got thrown out in the box (cos they couldn't find the box ANYWHERE).
I'm not that fussed on going back there, as it took them half a hour, and 3 people fluffing around to finally get us sorted (they couldn't find the car seat in the computer anywhere and no price tag etc etc) I really can't be bothered wasting more time going back there, so thought it might be just as easy to sort it myself. I don't care about paying for the pieces- I just want them ASAP! Lol

Sorry about your troubles with the Warehouse....I have to admit if it was me, I would have been fluffing as well, because I didn't think we even sold Safety 1st carseats, only Babywise, Zuzu or Cosco Scenera ones!!! And trust me, I spend a lot of time down the nursery aisle Definitely go back though - they should be able to find something. Alternatively, maybe go to Farmers and see if they can get the part in for you, seeing as they stock the same brand??

Yeah nobody recognised the car seat... But its definately brand new! (Mum and I went over it with a fine tooth comb... Not a single scratch on the plastic, not a single mark ANYWHERE. In fact, we'd have said it came out of the box 5min before we got there it was that mint condition-all other shop models we see in other stores are getting a bit dirty, scratched this one not at all!)
And it had one of their tags on it that they had to take off.... It was the only capsule they had with a base- all the other ones were just seat belt ones.
I might try Farmers, I feel a bit weird asking them seeing as we didn't get the seat through them...
But if anyone has any other ideas-there doesn't seem to be NZ site or anything? That'd be great!! I really just wanna get it sorted ASAP!

Hi there
Having lived in the states I would definately call them rather than email. Do you have skype because 1800 numbers are free on skype or only 1 c per minute if it isn't. If you know the exact part number I could probably get a friend to order it for you and post it. US sites normally just charge postage or try ebay as there is all sorts on there.
Good luck.

I would call farmers and ask them for the phone number of the safety first rep or importer in nz. No need to go into details or just say that you bought it months ago lost the receipt was a gift etc. No way to know where you bought it from. If you get caught and they are unhelpful which I don't think will happen just blame it on preggy brain. lol.

Is there contact details on the seat? There must be an agent for them in NZ somewhere. If there is an email / website - I've dealt with suppliers in the States they are fabulous for sorting stuff out.

Caliandjack- I just sent a email to a address on that link. Will give them a couple of days to email back
Kiwi2 I can't seem to find a exact part number for that piece, I would guess its not a part that needs replaced very often! I have family in the states (a cousin and aunt) so if it gets too frustrating I'll get them to try and sort it- it might be easier if it needs to be done over the phone etc!
If i have no luck with this email, I'll get the family to ring them. I have enough trouble talking to the family on the phone, let alone a stranger with accents lol
Thanks guys, hopefully this email sorts it though!

*sigh* well I still haven't heard back from them... And being a company I'd presume they would check emails daily and reply but nothing as yet!!
Emailed my cousin asking if she can give them a ring, if they aren't any help with her then I'll have to try farmers. I'm hoping she has some success though!!

Hi Hunnybunny
We have a Safety1st capsual we got from Farmers. Our box included the contact details for the NZ distributor:
IGC Dorel NZ Ltd
7A Hotunui Drive
Mt Wellington Auckland
09 276 1040 or 0800 62 8000
Hours: Mon - Fri, 9 - 4.
If you have no luck with them let me know as we don't use the canopy on ours, so if we have the same model I could send you our clips (if I can work out how to get them off)!

Oh WOW! Thank you so so so much
I gave them a call and got the most helpful lady on the phone because the handle has to come off, I have to send the capsule to them so they can replace the part, so YAY at least we will get it sorted. Apparently its a safety thing taking the handle off, will cost a fortune in postage but I don't care!!!
Now, to find a box to post a blimmin infant capsule
