Topic: Pregnant and almost miserable Posted: 14 May 2010 at 10:08am |
I need some help/advice/anything!
First off I am stoked to be pregnant - dont get me wrong on that. DF and I wanted this soooo bad and can't wait for our little girl to arrive. However....
At times I feel miserable. I am on the edge of tears a lot, for no reason, and very moody. I have had horrible migraines & headaches, my wisdom teeth are playing up, I have SPD and now my kidneys have started aching.
I get these moments where I feel like I am missing something/someone. Almost like extreme homesickness or loneliness - even though I have a great support network of friends and family.
I am working full time mon-fri in a non-stressful job/envrionment so i cant even blame it on that.
Has anyone ever felt the same? What should I do?

Firstly . I haven't felt like this during pg but I did feel like it after Jack was born and I have PND, I have heard that people can get Anti Natal Depression (is that the term for it?). I would suggest talking to your mw about it.
I hope you get it sorted soon

Does sound like me when I was pg with J and I had ante-natal depression.
Its awful and I really suggest seeing someone (ie your GP) about it as I didnt and spent the whole 9 months miserable and then ended up with PND... not suprising considering I was already depressed!
Hugs hun, you have crazy hormones going through your body right now and some of us just dont cope with it!

Hugs It's pretty normal to feel down from time to time, even with no good cause, and with all the hormones running riot in your body at the moment, perhaps you're just going through a bit of tough patch. Can you try and plan some things that make you feel better - a day out shopping, or a trip somewhere or something?
While it's well worth getting it checked with your MW or Dr, just in case it something more serious, or the start of it, like Linzy suggested, hopefully you're just a bit tired from growing this baby, and a bit hormonal, and it's all getting a bit much.
Take care, hun

There is definitely such thing as pre-natal depression. The deciding factor is usually how much it affects your everyday life - like if you are struggling to find the energy to go to work, get stuff done around the house, or do stuff you would normally do because of the way you are feeling. It's normal to get the blues from time to time, but if you are feeling miserable more often than you aren't then I would see someone about it. There's no harm in talking to your doctor/midwife anyways.
hugs... and I hope you feel better soon!!! Pregnancy is not the bed of roses they make it out to be... and SPD can't be much fun on its own, without feeling a bit strung out as well!!

I find I cant even put a load of washing on or clean the house...i walk around aimlessly for something to do or something to inspire me and when something does ill start it and find something wrong like out of vacuum bags and then quit coz its turned to sh*t!
this is like a daily thing for me! Im stuck at home rural by myself every day so i find it harder i think than if i had work to go to as i have the added guilt of not doing things here while DH does all the hard earning and also me not bringing any money in makes me feel like i cant spend a dime without permission....its really taking a toll on our relationship too and i dont want to end up alone with a young baby, it scares the living daylights out of me!

Thank goodness I read this- I have been feeling the same way for about a week now. Was doing sooo well up until then. I got quite severe SPD about 2 weeks ago- was working out, walking the dog lots and really happy at that point. It went from there to being in pain all the time- day and night.. and walking is painful so I am doing almost granny steps everywhere. Have been told if I dont try and avoid too much walking (let alone all the other fun stuff I was doing!) i would be in a walker- especially as I have 10 weeks to go. Also have new symptoms daily - hemorrhoids as of yesterday! , terrible acid reflux, feeling faint and achy all over- cant get comfortable anyway i sit/lie.... headaches...
That set it off I think.. but I just feel like crying all the time... not very hungry and feel quite alone in it all. Super super stoked to be having a baby- and I cant wait- but just feeling really down.

Marika - I think we are one in the same!!
SPD has made my life hell so far - but theres nothing I can do but hope it goes away once my wee princess arrives.
I totally have the reflux - living on quickeze :-( and my headaches are so bad/frequent that I am being referred to the hospital antenatal team to try and find the source.
I definately think the SPD (especially) makes you feel down. Especially because DF has no idea what I am experiencing. Telling him im in agony everytime I move just doesnt seem to convey it properly. Dont get me wrong, he is great but unless you have felt something before you cant really sympathise all that well can you?

I am feeling miserable as well. I have constant nausea like car sickness, exhaustion, sore breasts and dizziness. I am not regretting pregnancy but it is tougher than i expected so far. I am also trying to go off my antidepressants so that is making me even more up and down. Despite hubbies best efforts am feeling quite isolated and alone.

Hugs to you ladies. My heart goes out to you.
I had ante-natal depression in my last pregnancy. I remember getting to 14 weeks and thinking I should be so happy to get through the first trimester (history of mc) and all I could do was cry and cry. The hormones were crazy and it was a difficult pregnancy. For me, it latest to 38 weeks, and then when everybody else was over pregnancy, my world suddenly got its colour back. I was fortunate not to have it linger or become PND, although in my case, I was confident it was hormones and anxiety and that it would resolve itself post pregnancy.
It may be worth talking to someone in case there are underlying issues, which might be exacerbated by hormones, but might not go away by themselves. Perhaps also worth getting some bloods done re iron and zinc etc to rule out something physical?
Good luck
Edited for spelling.
