Topic: persistant mild cramping Posted: 21 May 2010 at 7:38pm |
HI all, this is my 2nd pregnancy but its been a long time and cant remember what was normal or not in early pregnancy.
I did have a c sect first time round and was wondering if you get more cramping.
It comes and goes but when it comes it lasts an hour or more.
It feels like I have my period cramps.
I also get a couple of shooting sharp pains occasionally too and just feel unwell.
Do u think Ihave anything to worry about. I dont see a midwife till 18 June.
Doc says its normal.
When I lived over there in NZ I got my first scan at 6 weeks. Wonder why I havent got one here. Would love to rule out ectopic pregnancy etc.
Also get pressure pain in vagina area. Uncomfortable.
Only 6 weeks pregnant.

only standard scans over here are 12 week nuchal and 20 week anatomy so im unsure how you managed to score one at 12 weeks last time :) unless you have an OB and not a MW like me.
both pregnancies ive had the period pain cramping type thing in early pregnancy. i think its just the body being confused about not getting its period. a lot of ppl tend to get early spotting around this time too which is freaky.
shooting pains could be early stretching maybe especially with any scar tissue? unwel may just be early signs of MS and pressure pain could just be due to the fact that everything seems to be pre-owied second time round and increased blood flow to the lady parts.
i didnt have a c-section but at this stage i'd say everything sounds pretty standard to me :) Good luck with your pregnancy

Before I'd even tested I was having really painful cramping, it sort of felt like really painful gas. I also felt like I was coming down with something (I was trying to convince myself I was sick, not pregnant) and I started getting wicked shooting pains at around 6 weeks. I remember describing it as feeling like I'd pissed off a midget with a switchblade. Perfectly normal
Congratulations by the way

Hi, I've had 4 c-sects, currently preg with my 5th baby, obviously will be a c-sect. Yes I get constant dull cramps, sometimes quite painful, has gotten worse with each pregnancy & ob has said it's likely to be scar tissue stretching, nothing has shown up on ultrasounds of any concern. Hope everything goes well for you, =).

Just thought I'd add it's uncomfortable at the beginning of preg, then again near the end, it won't hurt the whole way through, =).

I've heard second and third etc pregnancies can be more painful, as mentioned above.
I remember having mild cramps regularly before I found out I was UTD thought it was AF coming but it never came! It stopped by about 7/8 weeks and then I got stretching pain at 13 weeks+ occasionally, first time was when I sneezed and it was so painful I freaked out that I had done something wrong!

Actually the 12 week nuchal isnt actually standard (ie according to ministry of health) but most mw/ob refer for it these days. You still have some that dont though unless you are considered high risk.
But anyway, I have had period pain cramps the whole way through and i def didnt have it for as long or as often or this late with J.... It took me a few weeks to realise the cramps were braxton hicks and now my uterus is bigger I can tell as I can feel the tightening along with it.
I also got quite a few sharp shooting pains which I put down to ligaments stretching and scar tissue, seems to have eased off now.
From what I have heard, ectopic is extremely painful.. hopefully one of the mummies who have been unfortunate enough to experience it will pop in for that side of things.

I had a scan at about 7 weeks this time because of the cramps you are experiencing - and the first time around because of bleeding so I guess you could ask for a scan on those grounds
I have heard many get them for dates too - so a number of reasons as to how you could get an early scan - but then thats in NZ
Good luck for a healthy pregnancy!

I've been getting this too - yesterday I had mild cramping all fricking day with no letup (can you tell I've been feeling sorry for myself?! ).
I had pretty bad cramping with Nat almost all the way through too (what I now think was irritable uterus), so I'm hoping it's not ramped up 2nd time around! (and no c-section first time, so can't be scar tissue).
