    Posted: 10 June 2010 at 4:12pm
I am heading back to work in October and I am really stuck! I have two daycares to choose from which both have their pros & cons:

Daycare 1)
*Right around the corner
*Part of a large franchise
*12 babies in total
*Small play areas - in & out, but seem functional
*No diary to take home but has sleep charts/feeding charts that you can check when you pick up/drop off
*Has a nice feel

Daycare 2)
*Is out of the way - it is 11 minute drive there (I don't start till 10 & finish at 3, so miss the traffic) - I can go to work from there which would take the same amount of time if leaving from my own house - so 2 lots of 11 min drives a day (compared a 1 min drive to the daycare above)
*My sister's best friend (who I know well too) manages it and I have met the Head Teacher for babies a few times (she is the older sister of someone I went to school with), so I know that he would have an extra eye on him.
*Got a better review from the ERO
*I would get a discount of around $40-$50 off per week (my car is cheap to run so wouldn't cost much for the extra mileage)
*Has a bigger play area inside & out - has grass areas to play in, daycare 1 does not
*Has more babies which could be a negative
*Has a diary on their day which you can take home and record what happened the night prior/weekend
*Also has a nice feel

I guess what I am asking myself, is should I drive a bit further to get to a better daycare?

Which would you choose?

If it were me id be choosing the 2nd one.

I would like the factor that someone i know runs it & is there.

Also i like the idea of having outdoor/grass areas.

Good Luck deciding

I'd choose the daycare that I felt most comfortable in. It sounds to me like you have already chosen the one that is slightly further away.

11 mins would never outweigh the feeling that your child is happy and 'secure'.

They both sound good. It is a hard decision. I went with the one that will be closer to work, or should I say at work so that swayed my decision.

The 2nd..

Daniels daycare is literally on the opposite side of town from our house, you really couldn't get much further away, it takes me 14-16mins each way but I don't care because its such a great centre.

It also sounds like you like it more, your list is much more comprehensive on the 2nd than the 1st

Yeah I did prefer the 2nd one, but I guess I was looking for assurance that it was worth the drive.

Thanks everyone

10 minutes is hardly a long way to go, really go with the one you like.

I drive about 15 minutes out of my way to my childrens DC and its well worth it! The second one sounds good and the bonus is you will not have to worry about anything as you "know" them already.

Monkey go with whatever one makes you feel comfortable.
After a bad experience I would prefer to be with someone I know - so they have that extra eye on them

The centre I am looking at now has some one I know as the supervisor so it already has my vote

I have booked in to the 2nd one - I took DH there today and he liked them both but we agree with you all, we will both feel more comfortable knowing there is someone with an extra eye on him at the 2nd one.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
