Topic: Calling Coffee Aficionados Posted: 26 June 2010 at 10:46am |
Does anyone have brands to recommend?? Coffee is my splurge item so I buy beans (online usually) and have yummy coffees (decaf ). But my favourite roastery, although they make the yummiest coffee I've found yet, has appalling customer service. So last time I tried a new one (Havana coffee), which was yummy - just not quite as yummy, so I thought I'd keep shopping around a bit.
Would appreciate any recommendations - my coffee tin is getting low so time to order more!!

I'm drinking Hummingbird decaf at the moment, and it's pretty good - it's swiss water processed so tastes as good as "real" coffee.
I'm no expert but I went to a different supermarket last time and the only decaf beans they stocked were chemical processed - blerggh, they're so difficult to extract and the taste is awful ... gonna chuck out the rest of the packet and get some more Hummingbird beans!

Supreme is DH's fav brand. If we are in a town and we don't know the cafe's we'll often go to the one that sells Supreme.

DH likes Atomic Supreme, my other friend who's a coffee snob too likes Havana.
ETA he just said Supreme's also good. And Kona Coffee.

My brother roasts his own Not sure if he's done any this year, moved town but his roast was awesome!
I'm using Ultmo from the supermarket, I find them good & at the moment I'm using the one in the purple packet, can't recall but morning fix is good

At the moment we like Hummingbird (very reasonably priced from Pak n Save), L'Affare and Ripe.
L'Affare and Ripe are both Wellington brands, so we get the beans fresh from the roastery.

We like L'Affare especially as they are in the entertainment book so buy one bag and get one free. People who don't use this voucher give us theirs so we do well throughout the year

Supreme is the best. The Vittoria decaf is actually not at all bad (got a packet in my baby shower and would buy it again).

Im a barista i would definatly reccoment ozone decaf its a swiss water processed decaf so its a bit better for you rather than the chemical processed decaf which more of the cheaper brands tend to do it that way, here is there website ozonecoffee.co.nz they many different blends to choose from, its all roasted in new plymouth
hope that helps

Funniest was seeing my daughter eating dropped beans off the floor...she was like an addict! This reminds me to ask him if he's going to start roasting again.
Ohh I'm going to check out ozone.

Most of the cafes down here use Ozone beans for their coffees...(helps that they're literally just up the road from most of them - the place where they roast the beans is right in the CBD behind the theatre)
