Inside our Simpson washing machine is pretty dirty and I want to clean it so I can sell it as we are moving to Aussie very shortly. It's mainly inside the agitator thingy that there is a build up. I recently put thru the washing soda that you get from the supermarket but that didn't make a difference.
What else can I do to clean it out? We are on bore water which I don't think helps.

A week before O was born I pulled our washing machine apart to clean it (nesting much?!?!) - I was able to unscrew the agitator and pull it out, then I just hosed and scrubbed it to get rid of soap scum. I scrubbed the inside of the machine too, I found that hot water alone did the trick...and elbow grease!

Thanks for that, I might have to ask Dad to help me pull it apart then!! Maybe then I might find DS's stray socks lol.

We just unscrewed it all, well we, really I should say dp, then I cleaned it!

I was able to just lean inside it and unscrew the agitator by hand....but I have an older F&P, so not sure with other brands.

We have an old simpson, I'll ask dp what he did exactly, we ended up pulling it apart again though and getting an Elba instead (love the ads for them haha)

You can also fill with hot water and put in 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of baking soda and let it soak overnight. Then continue the cycle in the morning. But yeah if the agitator is really grubby you'll prob need to pull it out and scrub it

I did the same thing as Freckle it was part of my nesting lol!
I checked out the F&P website and others to see what they suggested and did a combination, filled the machine with hot water and vinegar and baking soda and let it sit for a few hours (was too impatient to wait overnight) then ran a rinse cycle, then I took the agitator out and scrubbed the rest away with a brush and the hose, letting it soak for awhile had softened all the soap scum so it was not too hard to get it off and I also wiped & scrubbed the inside of the machine (as best I could with a big belly!) and it came up like new.
NB: most of the build up is caused by fabric softener or using phosphate free washing powder.
