How much do you pay?

What do you get for that?

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

No replies yet? I thought there were a whole lot of people on the 'how much your DH do' thread that had cleaning fairies... I want one!

I want to look into it as well... we don't have a lot of money, but with DH working full time and me studying full time, the house often gets into a right state. It drives me batty.

Inlaws use to pay someone like $40-50 a week to come and do all the big stuff. Like giving the kitchen and bathroom a really good once over. All the floors a really good clean, dusting, cleaning windows if it was needed. Changing the bed. Then they looked after the day to day stuff.

I haven't replied coz we don't live in NZ so the info is largely irrelevant - our cleaning fairy lives in and works 6 days a week. We have had a part timer in the past though, this is what she did -

changed bedding, cleaned bathrooms and kitchen (just a once over), swept/mopped floors, some ironing (mostly just DHs shirts) and post C's birth she also did the washing if there was any when she arrived. She came once a week for 4 hours.

The family I nannied for in NZ coming up 10yrs ago had cleaners in once a week but from what I recall they were pretty picky about what was their job, eg no washing/ironing and no tidying.

We had one a few years ago when I was flatting - before I lived with Dh. She came once a fortnight and we paid $40, she cleaned the bathroom, toilet, vacummed and mopped the floor. She would also do the dishes if there were any left out, but we tried not to leave that many.
She was with Green Acres - it was quite cute she'd leave a mint and fold the loo paper on the roll nicely.

Oooh our old cleaner used to fold the loo paper over too - I LOVED coming home to a pristine house once a week. Such a treat!

We pay $50 per week. She cleans/tidys the kitchen, living areas, laundry room, and toilet/bathroom. She also mops and vacuums these areas too.

I highly recommend it,especially for those that are working.

How do you find one? I checked out the yellow pages and they only seem to have commercial cleaners, same with google.

Word of mouth, or I found the local paper useful.

Do a search for 'domestic cleaners'

We use Select Cleaning, I'm not sure if they're outside Welly. A friend of mine uses VIP Home Services and they are nationwide.

Another option is to look in your local supermarket to see if people are advertising there. That option is probably cheaper but personally I preferred going with a company.

Or if they're in your town and still exist, try Student Job Search

I used to long to have one.
Since watching several episodes of Target where they have done hidden camera trials with various agencies I could never bring myself to trust one!
I know chances are that most are not as gross as the people featured on that show, but the houses looked spotless afterwards so how would you know?

My Aunty is one, and all her work is by word of mouth. She generally vacs, mops, dusts, cleans the bathroom, top to bottom kinda clean, changes bedding when required, and just generally cleans. Not moving of stuff though. She charges about $25 an hour, a 3 bedroom house takes 2 hours at most.

We are thinking of getting a cleaning fairy when I go back to work. I dont really want to spend the precious time I have with DS cleaning the house.

My mum pays my aunty to clean their house, so pay is not relevant here, but this is what she does in 3 hours

changes bed (only one)
cleans 2 bathrooms
dusts, cleans mirrors and other surfaces
vacuums
mops floors

She doesn't tidy and doesn't do ironing. This is the general requirement for most entry-level cleaners

not quite the same but when i worked as a cleaner in a motel, i got paid 15,25 an hour.

i stripped and remade the beds up to 2 kings, and 4 singles,
luxed
scrubbed the shower and bath,
scrubbed the handbasin
washed and dried all dishes and pots
scrubbed the kitchen bench and table
mopped the floors
change the bath towels

and all that would take me an hour

but i would do 3 units during my shift

so im a pro
