Topic: Cooking Mushrooms? Posted: 16 July 2010 at 5:01pm |
I am wanting to cook some button mushrooms for DS to try, but how?? I hate them so I've never cooked them before.
I was thinking of just sticking them in a pan with a little bit of olive oil, would that be right?

You can 'roast them' with some olive oil and salt -
or you can put them on flour, whisked egg and the bread crumbs and 'fry' them in pan with olive oil. I sometimes put a slight Cajun seasoning in with the flour and bread crumbs. Very nice.
There is a great mushroom risotto recipe from issue one of ohbaby which is probably on the site free now? It's amazing!!!!

yuuuuum, i used to hate them but now I love them - sliced and sauteed in a bit of olive oil with salt - or without salt for bubs.

DD has had them sliced or quartered in stirfries. She often overlooks them in favour of brighter coloured veges though.

Well I ended up cutting them in half and cooking them in a little olive oil in a pan. DS didn't seem too keen on them though, got them in his mouth at one point but just screwed his face up
Thanks for the help ladies, that crumb idea sounds delish Angiebabe, maybe I should give them a go again mmmm

I always cook mushrooms with some kind of sauce like I fry them in the frypan with a bit soy sauce but not sure if bubs will like them that way.
Might be a bit early for mushrooms - maybe try in a few mths

Mine loves them- they are her favourite vegetable but I don't think we offered them until she was 10 or 11 months and was able to chew and swallow properly. I saute them in butter.

Butter all the way. I also microwave them in a jug with a dollop of butter when I am time pressured.

We're doing BLW so I'm not worried about him not chewing them or anything

Roasted with carrots, zucchini, pumpkin, or kumara, olive oil, & toast soldiers normally works well, no seasoning. We just pop the lot in a bowl & they help themselves. (I've always just let them feed themselves from about 5-6mths old- most of it ends up on the floor or in their hair though!)

I sliced and fried one up to keep DD amused while I cooked the rest of dinner. Gave it to her with a couple of peach slices from the fridge and the lot had disappeared by the time dinner was ready.

I use our george forman steamer.. pop them in whole (after a little wipe clean)
DS loves them...
they are flavoursome & juicy.. he will suck away on them and chew too
(we did BLW from 5 months and he was really into them)
Good Luck

My favourite way to cook mushies is in a little garlic and butter with salt, pepper, parsley and lemon juice and served on hot toast! YUM!
