Topic: YMCA Y-gym Posted: 29 July 2010 at 11:08am |
I just got back from a fantastic class for my wee man at the YMCA but I was told that I wouldn't be allowed in with my other wee charge who was fast asleep in my buggy. I have been to other gym classes for tots and never have I come across this before. Has anyone else arrived to a toddler class to discover they can't have their other small children with them?

What exactly were you meant to do with bubs then? I wonder why they said that?

I noticed that on the YMCA site when I was looking at enrolling Ella- apparentely you are suppose to put the other children/babies in the creche; no way could I put Tom in there, he is far too young. Hence the reason why I decided to go and do one more term of Jumping beans where they had no problem with Tom being carried around in the moby.

Yes I am meant to put the other tot in the creche but this isn't possible in my case either. They must really miss out on a lot of clients with this rule. What really annoyed me was that I know of another YMCA who don't have an issue with it.
It is such a shame because I couldn't reccommend the class enough. My boy had a blast.

North Shore YMCA let you have younger children in backpacks/carriers but you're not supposed to wheel your pram around with you, fair enough, it could be a hazard with all the toddlers running everywhere!
Lots of people do bring bubs in the pram and just have grandparents watching them on the sidelines.
I've used the creche for my youngest since she was 8 weeks old while I go to the class with my toddler, it's only 45 mins and right next to the stadium, they come and get you if any problems.

Ashleigh went to the Hamilton one last term - they must be pretty relaxed as there were mums wheeling prams around and other younger siblings running around all over the place! This was in a 3-4yo class. It did say in the newsletter though that siblings were meant to stick to the sidelines but that wasn't going to happen. The only thing that annoyed me were the parents who were letting the younger ones go on all the equipment and we had to keep waiting for them, when they weren't even enrolled in the class.

I just think that if a child is in a pram and on the sideline where they will remain for the entire session that it should be a none issue.
I could see a problem with little ones on th eequipment area as parents attention is then devided.

I am curious as to which YMCA this was - we used to go to Tumble Tots and there were often a couple of babies parked up in buggies asleep. I dont see why it would be a problem....I would talk to the Manager of the Y and see what they say.

It was Mt Albert. I know of others who have kids on the sideline but the line I got from them was it was OSH regulations and all YMCA's should be following the rules. They said they were disappointed that others weren't following the rules. I said well I guess I'll just have to go to one of those others but really I don't want to as I can't walk there if we go somewhere else.
