well my 30th birthday is coming up! argh! and I am stuck for ideas of what to do! I don't want a boozy party as I am breast feeding and would rather remember the night also! My 21st was a combined 21st for me and my engagement party - so it wasn't all about me. But for this birthday I would like it to me about me, as I am now a mother of 3 so nice to do something for 'me'. Any ideas on what I can do?

Have a classy cocktail party.

My 30th is next year and I am having a classy party, not totally sure yet what we will do but I know we will be dressing up for it.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

If u are including kids in the perty then a dress up theme would be fun for everyone - like an 80's party!

Mine is coming up too and I'm also breastfeeding. I think I'm just going to do dinner at a restaurant maybe, I can't think of anything else either!

We had a nice day with me and DH, then met a couple of friends for dinner and spent the night in a hotel in the city. It was great (apart from the fact that DH got very drunk and we had an argument.....)

yeah i go thru phases of wanting something big then change my mind. I would really like to go away with my hubby for the weekend. I would have to take our then 9.5month with us unless she weans herself before then. My bday is a Wed so thought about a get together the weekend b4 it then go away with hubby the weekend after. Im sure my family can take care of our 7 & 5 year olds.

Sometimes I think about an early in the day party and getting a face painter in and inviting friends and family with their kids but then i change my mind.

I like the idea of a cocktail party! As a mother of 3 when do I get a chance to dress up all swanky!? Apart from earlier in the year when I was a matron of honour with a 12 week old baby and mastitis in both breasts! ha ha ha that was fun!

i just don't want to have any regrets on how I celebrate it.

Altho I suppose there will be other birthdays that are big ones in time to come.

I did want to go overseas but then we decided to go for #3 baby so that idea went out the window! maybe for our 10th anniversary we will make it overseas!

I like the idea of dressing up swanky -- I think that will help make it a special night for you.

What about a harbour dinner cruise where the dress code is formal?

We had a cocktail evening for combined mum and dads 60th and brothers 30th...was lots of fun...the trick is to choose only a few cocktails else things can get out of hand pretty quickly. And have LOTS of mixers including juices/cream etc.
Also need to assign someone to be making the drinks at the start of the night, towards the middle and end some guests like to give it a whirl.

Sooo much fun, want to have one myself now lol!

i don't drink as I used to have an issue with drinking and I am a Christian now and also breast feeding so what ever we do it will be alcohol free,

the harbour dinner cruise sounds great! how do I find out about that? i could get my hair & nails done!

Not sure what I would do with our baby - unless my Mum and Dad took care of our 3 kids and we went out with friends and my sisters? Altho one of my sisters would have a newborn baby by then.

but really like the idea! ill have a look into it. thanks!

the other thing ive always wanted to do was go hot air ballooning?

A cocktail party is a really nice way of celebrating I think!
DP and I recently had a combined bday party which worked out really well. We got a suite in the city with living and kitchen areas and a separate bedroom (cheap on wotif) and had a dress up vintage theme cocktail party there.
Earlier in the afternoon I had a few girlfriends come to the hotel and had pampered on location come and do our nails etc it was so nice!
I was lucky to have my parents looking after DD for the night, they brought her for a visit and a feed about 6pm, but something like this would be quite doable with a baby, if your baby is happy sleeping away from home! Our DD is happy to sleep in a bedroom when we are over at friends for dinner or whatever.

My birthday is in November, round Canterbury Anniversary day which down here in Canterbury is all about the A&P Show and Cup Day. I have never made it to cup day and have always wanted too.

So what I did was have my own Cup Night!! Invited about 30 people approx and everyone had to dress up in there best dress, hats etc.

We taped 5 races off the TV and printed off heaps of pretend dollar bills. Everyone was allocated a certain amount to 'bet' with. My sister acted as the 'bookie' and people had to place bets with her. We played the races through out the evening and everyone was so into it!! Jumping up and down and cheering for their horse! It made a standard kind of 30th gathering into a really great night. We are not usually into betting on the races or anything but for one night it was fun.

Everyone raved about it and even had a friend who said she would never ever put a bet on a horse in real life, but enjoyed it as it was just pretend!!

Hope you figure out something to do, being able to dress up for one night when you are a busy mum is so much fun.

Some really good ideas from others too.

That is such a cool idea, Lottie! I have been to a couple of fundraisers that are the same as that and they are awesome.

I am having a boozy party with lots of dancing! Mine is going to a huge weekend as have my 30th on the Friday night and DS's 3rd birthday on the Sunday.

The kids are going to stay at Mums house but we will pay for a sitter so Mum can come to the party but we don't have to deal with them in the morning.

what a cool A&P party!

ive never had a surprise party before and that would be a cool idea too but wouldn't be a surprise if I know about it! ha ha ha

the hard part is that most of my friends have children and really young babies too! My sister will have a 2 week old, my besty will have a 2 month old, another friend will have a 3-4month old.

Id really like it to be something special for me but not sure how to go about it.

thanks for all the ideas!

On my 30th I booked a bach on Waiheke Island and brought some friends with me. We spent the weekend on the beach (it was warm even though it was April!) and had a BBQ dinner and out to the cafes etc. It was fun! Some people just came over for the day - so they attended the BBQ and beach with us.
