Topic: are the sauces... Posted: 27 August 2010 at 3:55pm |
in mcdonalds burgers safe to eat?
Probably a dumb and really lame question lol but I feel like a big mac (bad I know ) and I think I have read somewhere that the sauces are ok...I didn't eat them whilst pregnant with DS as I didn't think they were ok but would like to know one way or the other

I eat them.... I figure they are totally processed and full of preservatives so nothing much is going to grow on them.
That isn't exactly a definitive answer though is it

I avoided the Big Macs in the 1st tri due to the lettuce (as well as Subway etc), but I ate a Big Mac a week ago (uncontrollable craving!!!) and was fine. I think some of the sauces at takeaway outlets have egg yolk in them which is the problem, but from what I understand the big places like McDs they are made in such quantities the egg yolk does get hot enough so are OK to eat. Will be interesting to see what others say, if that is right or not!

This is only my observation, but I'd be really surprised if there was anything resembling real egg in McDs mayo.
Everything is so processed its not likely to harm you. I'd have gone crazy without McDs as there isn't a lot else I can eat from your average shopping centre food court.
With Subway I make sure I buy a hot one and get it toasted.

The mayo/special sauce at McD's is heat treated so no problems there... not really sure about the lettuce but you could just get without.... I am assuming its not really the lettuce you want anyway LOL
I am off McD's now, but I think I ate my weight in cheeseburgers.. I will say this though, dont get them from the one on glenfield road... they just dont taste right LOL Infact they didnt at glenfield mall either for that matter, the one on wairau however, well they are just perfect LOL

I never heard they were bad?
Re lettuce, I just ask for no lettuce, I never get lettuce and at subway I won't get the veges/salads if they don't look fresh.

Most processed sauces, including mayonnaise you buy at the supermarket are ok as the eggs have to be pasturised so kills any potential nasties...
I would've thought that a place like McDs would have such a high turnover of product that the lettuce would generally be ok, but if you are concerned, like the others have said, just get it without. I found when I was feeling sick I could only eat a filet of fish with no sauce...dry fish and buns...tasty

I still love cheeseburgers and I always have to ask for extra pickles!! They're extremely stingy on the pickles if you dont.

I pigged out on McDonalds, figured with all of the preservatives etc it was the safest of the lot. Don't get it very often now though, but then we are hardly ever in ChCh
