Does anyone know of a children method of protecting the vege garden from slugs and snails? I was going to buy some slug and snail bait but then remembered that it syas to keep away from kids and Ben will be able to get to it

Salt. Or ask at your garden centre. Have you googled?

and puppy dog tails! hehe.. I use baking soda.. makes them foam ;) Beer is also good, just make sure kiddies dont see you do it, although its not going to kill them if they get it. You just put a wee bit in a jar lid and put it in a little box. Its like ants, they'll smell it, drink it and die.

I got some slightly more child freindly bait from Mega but I am going to investigate putting crushed shells around the plants, a place down the road sells it

Sink yoghurt pots into the soil and half fill with beer then the slugs/snails will drown. There is something that is safe for pets (maybe the one you got) I guess that maybe its safe for humans too?

Eggshells can work but not really 100% as you have to have tonnes of them. Maybe egg shells and salt together???

I was planning on getting crushed seashells from up the road, might deter the boys from going on the garden too! Apparently the shells cut the snails and then leads to death (I think by dehydration?)

Crushing up eggshells & using them as a barrier works pretty well - the slimy critters can't slither over rough textures, so they can't get through

last year I used coffee grounds (who knows where I read that) but it actually did seem to work. Just got them from a local cafe for free.
