not me personally, but my SIL was recommended as her hubby has several downs children in the family - where the parents were not in the "high risk" catergory. they6 weighed it up and decided that even if they found out baby had downs they wopuldn't want to terminate so have another 4 months til they find out - did some fold thing test though that was okay so the chance is much slimmer now.

i think firstly you need to decide what you would do if you had a bad result. I would never terminate if the result was "bad", so for me having the test was pointless.

there is also the maternal serum (I think it is called that) blood test that can give you information, without being invasive. Amnios do tell you more than just downs, is that what they are concerned about? Chromosone issues can be incompatible with life, for some of the things it looks at so it might be worthwhile investigating further, if this is the case for you.

Fingers crossed that all is well and you don't have to make any hard decisions. Sometimes knowing so you can prepare for what lies ahead after the birth is really important to people, so you may decide to find out even if you have no intention of terminating. We would have had it if we had been in the reccomended group, just so we could plan for the future.

Thanks Miss (and all)

You are so right, the knowledge whether bad or good would be a great help in preparing for the future.

Had the blood drawn for the serum test today... and a scan scheduled in 2 weeks. Hopefully that will be enough.

Good luck debncal, hope everything comes out the way you want. I havn't had an amnio but was support for a friend who went thru one and its not easy but sometimes they are required for more information. Not sure which way I would go it in the same position as you. Let us know how you go with the serum test. How far along are you at the moment?

Its sooo comforting to hear the heartbeat for the first time, makes it all seem just that bit more real. Look forward to hearing more down the track

we were considered high risk but at nuchal test our measurements dropped the risk factor so much that we decided against amnio and our specialist supported that...

we would have had a totally different decision to make had our risk factors stayed the same or increased....

Have you had the nuchal one done yet? or are you doing it? BTW our risk factors were our age, Dhs weight, etc....what reasons would yours be for?
