I know this question is posted regularly, but I'm looking for a Hamilton midwife who is truly comfortable at hospital births (there was a bit of conflict at my son's birth between my (back up) MW and hospital MWs). And preferably someone on the hospital side of the river, though I am happy to travel for the right lady.

Many thanks.

I have used Colleen Van Der Laan and Shelley Sjaarda and I them both! They are each others back up mw and are based at Waterford. They both seemed comfortable to go with whatever I chose, however I birthed all 3 kids at birth centres (2 @ Waterford, 1 @ River Ridge) so can't comment on a hospital birth. However after having Ollie I was transferred to the hospital due to fully retained placenta and Colleen seemed to interact really well with the hospital staff there.

Hope that helps?

Oh, congratulations by the way and best of luck with your search

I had Therese James. I was planning on having E at RiverRidge but ended up being induced. Once my labour was established she came in and we didn't see any of the hospital staff until E was born (another 5 minutes and I may have had forceps). She is fantastic and can't rate her highly enough. She is based in Chartwell at rivercity midwives on peachgrove road.

Good luck and congrats!

I had, Sam Schultz and I loved her. SHe came to me for all my appointments. Based at Waterford though. But her student MW (who was fantastic aswell) is taking over her back up while she has a baby and the student graduates shortly and will be based at the hospital. Does taht make sense. My sister has my MW now. And she likes her too.

Debbie Fawcett from BabiesRUs on Lorne St is fabulous. She is a RN also and use to work in delivery suite at the hospital so knows it and it's systems well. Highly recommend her. I ended up having an emergency c-section which she stayed for when she didn't have too. She is very popular though and only takes on a small caseload so you've got to be in quick!
