Ok so one thing i cannot stand is when you in the last 2 mins of bidding and someone bids against you at like 20secs to go then it goes back to 2mins and then they wait till 20secs again and it continues for the next 10 mins that frustrates me soooo badly!!!

argh, i know what you mean jess! i once got into one of those bidding wars and ended up spending way more than i wanted to for my jacket. i've actually heard of people who have 2 trademe accounts and when something is due to close they go into their other account and start to push the bids up so they'll get more for it. i think that stinks!

But why Janine, I can understand waiting for the last 5 minutes but what's the point of extending the auction?

Glad you got what you wanted.
I set myself a budget before I even bid on it. And I have stuck to it except once. Went over by 50c and at least got it.

Yes it's annoying when it happens to you when bidding but it's great when your the seller...I always have my listings on auto-extend...it is an auction after all!

Busymum, i tend to bid at the last minute so that i am not bidding bidding bidding all week and pushing the prices up.. you have people that really want things, why pay heaps for them cos they bid the whole week thinking that no-one else will bid for the next 4 days (lolol, come on), if you bid now, others will know you want it and be more determined to beat you. I bid at the last minute on the off chance that they will either have forgotten to watch the auction so i can sneakily win it, or that they think no-one else wants it, or that maybe they think they have won so pop away for a minute or so.. and again, i win. lol so yes i am a bit of a trade-me cow, but hey, i get good prices, if i see the prices going up then i flag it and don't even bother but will still leave it on the watchlist so i can see what ridiculous price it went for.. If a bidding war starts from my last minute bid, there's a clear point i will go to, ie if someone bids back I will bid again but will set an auto-bid up to my set amount, if they are pig-headed enough to keep bidding to try beat it, then so be it. lol.. i definately don't just keep extending it that does suck and gets annoying.
Ok so now you know my secret...

Ahhh well I'm with you on that Janine. I got out-bid that way just last week though. I had set the auction to "email me when outbid" but no email came and I forgot (10.15pm that's why!) and someone bet my bid by $1 at 10 mins before closing time. Sneaky, and good for them, but I wish I hadn't forgotten!
