Just wondering if anyone knows anything about treatment of migraine with breastfeeding?

I've always had migraines and with DD1 ended up having to give up breastfeeding when she was 6 months old, had struggled alot with migraine (admitted to hospital several times with uncontrollable vomiting, arua etc etc) and decided it was best to go on some preventatives...

This time round DD2 is only 4 weeks old, I've been having alot of migraines, was in hospital last week with a shocker one, didn't know who I was, vomiting etc etc... With 2 kiddies to look after I can't really keep having them, its starting to get dangerous... But I really don't want to stop breastfeeding since DD is so young...

Anyone have any experience with this??

The worst migraines I ever had was pre baby... But all the doctor would give me was voltaren and was also suggested to take sports drinks like Powerade because they thin the blood and *can* help.

How does breastfeeding affect your migraines? I have found breast feeding hasn't affected my migraines but I seem to have them quite mild now almost 24/7 but it's bareable and not like you describe (that was pre baby).

Have you looked into diet? Can also affect migraines.

Sorry I wasn't very clear its not the breastfeeding that effects them, its that I can't breastfeed if I start to take the preventatives cause the drug I would normally take passes through the milk... So was wondering if anyone has any experience of taking migraine preventatives while breastfeeding...

I am pretty careful about what I eat, I drink loads of water... Its driving me nuts

I haven't had preventatives while breastfeeding but I was taking Imagrin (or the new subsidised one) while breast feeding and it wasn't a problem.

You best bet is to talk to your GP as soon as you can. There may be meds that you can take and still breast feed or meds that you can take and even though they go into your breast milk, they won't affect bubs.

Yeah, agree it's probably best to chat to your GP as they will be able to help or at least put you onto someone who can!

Migrains suck so hopefully you find a solution! But remember that your health is important!

I agree migraines suck!!! I had another one today, luckily my parents were here so could drive DD1 to kindy cause I couldn't see
