Topic: After Lap Surgery Posted: 14 October 2010 at 7:09am |
Hi everyone
I had a laproscopy and hysterscopy two weeks ago today. I seem to be 'healing' ok, except for my tummy sites being a little red.
I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon on monday next week so will find out the in's and out's then. I have been told that I had a 4cm cyst beside my left ovary, which they drained, and a couple of possible endo spots that were also removed.
My question to those that have had this done is...
Did the surgery muck up your cycle at all and in what way?
How long did it take for your cycle to get back to normal?
Thanks very muchly for all of your help.

Hi Mollymoo, good to hear you are healing well. I had similar surgery at the beginning of September to remove endo and flush tubes etc.
I seemed to heal really well too, although still have one patch just below belly button that looks healed over but is still tender to touch, I think internally rather than externally if that makes sense! It was the site with the biggest bruise so I'm guessing thats where maybe something quite major was done??
I had follow up appointment two weeks later with my surgeon too who happens to by my IVF Dr also and I asked for a BT to pin point where I was in my cycle as I still hadn't had AF, and those results came back as Day 3 to 4.
My surgery was a result of an IVF scan though which showed up what they thought was a fibroid so two weeks prior I had been taking IVF drugs so I'm not sure if that mucked up my cycle as well.
Anyway, if you can, ask to get BT done when you go back to see your specialiest and that way at least you will know were you are.
Good luck!

Hey MM, good to hear you are doing ok. A year on I can't see my incision sites at all anymore apart from my belly button one so they tend to heal fairly well.
I thought my cycle might take a while to sort itself out after having the endo and adhesions removed but it stayed exactly the same. AF arrived right when expected.
Hope you continue to heal well and good luck with the followup

I had my lap close to the start of my cycle. I ovulated about a week 'late' (late is the wrong word, because I never oved usually... it would be more accurate to say that I oved after week three rather than week two). I'm pleased not to be able to give any info on how long it took to get back to normal, becuase I got UTD that cycle

Interesting, I got UTD a month after my lap was done...I often wonder if the dye cleared out the tubes or something? (I had nothing wrong they were just checking)
And giggle giggle MM it worked for you congrats!!!

Congrats mollymoo, great to see another BFP after lap!!!
Emmap, how long have you been waiting for surgery- I see you live in Dunedin? I had first appt with specialist in Dunedin yesterday and also been put on wait list for lap and dye, he told me hopes I will only be waiting 3 months eg Feb. Would be really interested to hear your experience, I have never been in hospital or under anesthetic so am a bit nervous...!

Thanks Lilymay
Been waiting a couple of months for an appt now, so it's getting very frustrating, but we are trying not to think about it too much!
