My boy has an ongoing infection that we've been to the doctor for several times and only now has the doctor suggested surgery. It hadn't crossed my mind at all until now. My first instinct was straight out no. As I could not do this to my son.
Anyway, he has been given meds and we are to back this week to the dotor and he will then decide the next course of action.

Clearly is my choice and decision as to whether we get this done. And I've been reading up on several different websites and arming myself with reason why i will not do this.

My Dh I do believe ahd the same 'issue' and his parents got him the circ. We were visiting IL's yesterday and when the asked what DS meds were for I tried to explain the situation, and they said he needs the surgery, and bascially didn't let me give them my reasining as to why I didnt' want to.

Is there anyone who has circumsied their sons or was told to and didn't etc

Just so I'm not alone, it's seems no one wants to talk about these things.

My parents had it done for my brother. He was probably about 6 or 7. He had had a hernia and some other urinary problems and was still wetting the bed. They did it at the same time as the rest of his surgery under a general. I'm not 100% sure whether it was recommended or what. It wasnt for religious reasons.

I haven't been in this situation, but stand your ground if you think it is the right decision.

Doctors do not always best. I am normally very anti-circumcision, but I think in a situation of recurrent infection, it would be wise to do your own research and look at both sides of the argument (which it sounds like you are doing).

Good luck.

This is a good site, its is very anti circumcision, you will find lots of articles about it. I would never get a piece cut off my baby that is supposed to be there for a reason. Each to their own tho

I think you need to really research the pros and cons. Also why you are so against it. I know my first reaction would be an outright no too but I don't know why IYGWIM. Maybe cringe factor for me.

At the end of the day keeping it complete with ongoing infections may be more of an issue than having a snip. But if it is something you are really against then give yourself a timeline to fix it before looking at other options such as a circumsion. The ultimate goal at the end of the day is a happy healthy child.

It sounds like there might be a bit of a genetic predisposition to it if your DH had to have it done. Maybe talk to him and ask him why he thinks it was good and the disadvantages etc since he has actually walked in the shoes.

Hmm Im not really sure what Id do, I am anti Circ though, and it never crossed my mind to get Caden done, but...if he was having ongoing infections and nothing was helping and he was in pain(as it must be sore), and getting him circ would help, then I might do it, after a lot of thinking and reasearch.

I have JUST been through this with my oldest, his foreskin was closing over instead of opening up, and every time he went wees, it would balloon up inbetween the head of the penis and the foreskin, then basically burst through a forced opening at the tip of the foreskin... he was in pain every time he went, and no amount of medication was going to solve it. GP, and the surgeon he referred us to both said circumcision was really the only option... and now that its done and healed, I really wish we'd had it checked sooner... I assumed his pain was UTI's and kept dosing him up on cranberry juice and lots of water, when that really only made him need to pee more, and put him in more pain instead.

The recovery was harder at his age because the fear of being in pain made him think it was painful, even though a penile block would have removed any pain for that first day. Pamol for a week, and steroid cream for 3 months (to prevent scar tissue building up and closing the hole over again) and you'd never know it wasnt done at birth. Op was done late Sept this year.

After watching him go through all of this, DP swore that if this one is a boy, it will get done... but I disagree. It has a 1% chance of occurring, and DS was just unlucky enough to BE in that 1%.

My stance on circumcision, even after watching DS going through all of this... is only if medically necessary... and in your case it sounds like it may well be? Are the infections UTI's or in/around the foreskin? If UTI then I'd be hesitant too, but if its related to foreskin, then I'd go with the circumcision option, esp when its recurring.

I'm in the camp that if it was recommended for medical reasons, I'd do it - just like I'd give the OK for Drs to remove Jacob's apendix or tonsils if need be.

However, that's just what I'd do - you've got to do what's right for you, and it sounds like you're not that keen. Like others have said, I'd look into it carefully, but it's quite possible you can make that work for you.

I remember my bro had to get it done (probably for the same reasons as babykats son) and it was an instant problem solver for him. I thi nk arming yourself with all the information for all sides is the way to go and sounds like you're on that

Its a foreskin rash type thing. He's not had a UTI. But I was also told once he's out of nappies its should clear itself up. Cause the other hting is spozies instead of cloths or silk liners.

Its hard to say at this age whether he will 'grow out of it' or not, the foreskin starts to move back on its own around the 5 year mark, at which point the rash may or may not abate on its own... the next question is 'is it hurting him?' If hes not in pain over it, then I (speaking personally of course) wouldnt jump to a circumcision either... but if he IS in pain then it would definitely be something I'd consider, and for me was the deciding factor... My son was in pain every time he went to the toilet, and as it turned out, the condition he had was not going to correct over time, quite the opposite, but even if there WAS a chance it might correct itself given time... the fact that he was in pain NOW, made me agree to the circumcision.

One way to 'test' if its a contact thing, esp with summer coming up and the weather being warm is to allow him to run around outside with no nappy on at all as much as poss (assuming you have the kind of backyard that makes this possible?)
