your hint must be hard... what was it you were into 2 years ago that might have prompted your password?

There are programs you can use to change your password.
You would need to download it though and burn it to a disk using another computer if you can't access yours.

I can't remember the name of the one I use as it is at home and I am at work. I can have a look when I get home though.

Restart your computer and hit F8 on start up. Continue hitting F8 until it loads up different than normal. Select 'Start in safe mode', you'll get choice of log in of You Username or Admin. Admin is not password protected. Note: once logged in as admin use Control Panel and User Accounts to make another account (or I think you may be able to change password of your first account). Done. Restart and log in as per normal.

That's from my DH :) If you have any issues reply back with what platform you are using (Microsoft XP, Vista etc) and we can go from there.

The name of the disk I use is called Hirens BootCD Version 10.6

You put it in when the computer first starts and it brings up a menu. You choose the password tools program and it lets you change the password. So nope not stuffed at all :)

If you take it to get repaired and you don't know password it doesn't matter because they can get in and will be able to help you.

DP is in IT and I did this a couple of years ago and he magically fixed it. Not sure how.
