My upright freezer is a Haier and I really like it and had no issues. Sorry, dunno about their washing machines though.

Our new sparkly (I'm still excited about having a new washing machine ) is a front loader. It does take longer but it is fantastic! I can do a full load (7kg) in a hour but I can make it shorter but prefer to do a 'proper' wash.
Ours is a Panasonic.
I would never ever ever go back to a top loader

We got a panasonic front loader too and I'd sell my kids for it, I freakin' LOVE it. You can do 60min loads but the normal load takes about 1h20 if its a warm wash. It heats its own water too, so efficient!!!
I would have to say to buy the BEST you can afford and go for a reputable brans so if you need to get it fixed, parts aren't an issue. Sometimes alot of the cheaper things have alot more plastic or low grade parts in them and you use your washer probably daily so get a good one!!
