Topic: My cycle after MC Posted: 31 January 2011 at 9:55am |
My chart has been all over the place since my miscarriage three weeks ago. Can any knowledgeable charting or ex-charting girls out there who have been in a similar situation tell me what happened with their cycles after MC? I would like to get UTD again straight away but am wondering if my chart is going to show any clear indication of ovulating or whether the hcg that is hanging around in my body is playing games with my temps?
I know that it is going to take a while to get back to normal etc etc but if anyone is happy to share their stories or advice that would be great

Hi LR, thought I'd share my experience with you to see if it helps. I too wanted to try to get UTD as soon as possible after our MC.
I found out at 13 weeks that I had a missed miscarriage at 7 weeks. I had first dose of misoprostol at almost 14 weeks. I didn't pass the sac until 1 week later after a second dose of misoprostol. I had bHCG monitored down to 15 which was about 2 weeks after the second lot of misoprostol and a week later I got AF. We were told to wait for one AF before trying again to make sure that the lining had completely shed and it was fresh ready for another go. So first AF occured 5 weeks from finding out, 4 weeks from first misoprostol and 3 weeks from second misoprostol and passing the sac.
Thats probably the info you want, but since then I have had pretty regular cycles - CD29, CD29, CD32 (D&C in this month due to ? retained products - in hindsight may not have been as bHCG has always been normal), CD30, CD32, CD28 (and hysteroscopy in this cycle due again to ?retained products but ended up normal). I have used OPK's in the last 3 cycles which showed nice surges at CD18, CD14 and CD18 this cycle. I'm hoping that my body is just adjusting to the loss...the fact that it didn't clear on its own was a big stress on my body.
I hope this helps, and good luck :)

I never knew how to chart when I had my m/c.
I m/c on the 5/12 was still bleeding after xmas day, then it stopped & AF was back to normal a week later. I fell pg 3mths later & was not trying as I had given up on getting pg again as it took over 2 yrs to fall pg, DS2 was induced early due to medical reasons & was born on 11/12 the next yr...
So I always feel I was meant to have a xmas baby
I have a friend who fell pg the next month after m/c...& have seen plenty on here that have fallen pg not long after. I am in mixed minds about charting sometimes & would just BD every 2nd day or more
When I had my m/c at 13 weeks the Dr told me..at least you can get pg, that felt like a slap in the face at the time...3 mths later I was, typical medical bedside manner.

Hi Hun, sorry I can't offer too much help as I had a D&C with my MC and didn't have any retained product and my cycle went back to normal straight away.
I would imagine (but could be wrong) that while you still have HCG in your system that yoyu won't OV, but not sure if that explains the irratic chart.
So all in all I am no help but big hugs and really hope your cycle goes back to normal ASAP

Just to add I got told to wait 6mths before trying again....which was not a problem as I had given up so I was really surprised when I fell pg as we would not of BD much due to me being so upset...& no way was it timed or due to wanting to get pg....

Thanks guys, I was told that I could TTC straight away so thought I would give it a go. Jazzy, I have thought that myself that I'm glad I can at least get pregnant, I would rather put a positive spin on it than a negative one!
Monkeys, I'm pretty sure I have read on here of others getting pregnant straight away without getting AF in between but I'm not sure how the hcg would affect things. I'm just so used to having a consistent cycle that clearly shows ovulation so now I'm confused

Hi LR
Here is the link to my post m/c cycle (hope it works)
http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ttc/index.php
I m/c naturally and things seemed to go back to normal pretty quickly. I did fall pg that cycle but nothing came of it, got my AF a week later. My cycle after my D&C was a little different though, took around 3 months for things to fall into place. Even now I can have some really short of longer cycles.

Hmmm, weird. Yes, it gave me dotted red lines though as my temps were still high and all over the show. Although I was on my honeymoon so I did lay into the wine a bit which could've caused that!
Hang in there, this cycle will probably be a bit odd but it should sort itself out soon enough next time round.

I don't know how to link my old charts either, but I m/c back in 2008 on March 5th, and didn't ov again till May 16th. I would get EWCM but then just start bleeding again within a few days of that the bleeding was off and on (mostly on) till May 9th, which was the day I started taking Vitex and I ov'd one week later (info all from my chart, I don't have some amazing memory lol). I was told just to wait one cycle after m/c but my Dr admited it was only for dating purposes, but when you're charting you know when you conceive anyway so we were gonna start trying right away, but darn two months of bleeding put a stop to that but we conceived DD on the 2nd ov after m/c (June 22nd to be precise )
Hope your body doesn't take as long as mine did to come right though, and hope you get UTD again pretty quickly this time!

I wasn't charting when I m/c but I had 6 weeks before my next AF then I conceived within 6 weeks after that. It seems that might have been another 6 week cycle because the scan indicated baby would be due about 10-14 days after my dates had estimated.

LR here is the link to my chart post mc and then the next cycle pg with Jake... Link
Have you had a BT to confirm HCG is back to 0? Ov wont happen until its dropped and it can definately affect your temps...
It can take up to 6 weeks for your next AF after a mc, which just plan sucks when you want to get back to TTC. Its also not uncommon to have annovulatory cycle after a mc...
Hope you get that BFP again really soon!
ETA - I had lots of "trying to ov" and I definately did ov that cycle because I had Prog and HCG's done at 8 DPO and it was 26 from memory, could trawl the original chart thread but its a bit late for that.

Here's my cycle post miscarriage - linky - hope it works.
My temps have a bit all over the place too - although I haven't been able to be very consistent with timing of temps lately, and haven't been getting 3 hours consistent sleep, so its possible that's not helping.
I'm also using OPK's this cycle, and they are really frustrating me! First 2 days I got tiny faint lines then the last few days nothing at all! I'm now wondering if the first two were showing leftover HCG? Or I'm completely missing the LH surge!
I'm also hoping I'll ovulate soon, can't stand the waiting game!
Good luck with your chart, hope you start getting ovulation signs soon!

LR, we were the same, had no reason to wait before training again, so we didnt. Do you know what your HCG's are doing? You wont Ov until they are at 0 again.
I've had a lookie at your chart and I cant make much sense from it, sorry. I didnt Ov the cycle after I MC'ed despite FF giving me dotted red lines. Then I started Vitex 5 cycles after my MC to try and sort things out.
I hope things your cycles sorts its self soon

Thanks guys, you're all awesome That's great info!
I have only had one hcg done, that was over a week ago and was 105 so I can only assume that now I have stopped bleeding it is almost back at zero(ish). I was planning on doing another blood test this week if the bleeding hadn't stopped but now that it has I think I will just wait until my gynae appt next week.

might be worth taking a pregnancy test if you have any left (or need to get some for next time ) to see if it's still positive or not. Mine was still positive 1.5wks after m/c but negative a week later. (I wasn't as far along as you though, 7.5wks)
ETA and I was still bleeding then too

Hey LR,
My first after MC in Dec was normal (me normal anyway).
This next cycle is the weird one..... just constant spotting.....
Did ultrasound last month and they found a small fibroid which is probably the culprit, but am hoping it is something to do with the MC. Don't want to be bleeding 24/7 for the rest of my life!!!!!

Hey KM, welcome back! I think maybe your reaction to a MC also has to do with the stage at which you miscarry? Hope that fibroid leads to nothing.
I was thinking about doing a preg test Rachel but I would have to buy one and I really don't want to waste it when I know I'm not pregnant.
