I used to heat the bed with mine, and turn it off before I went to bed. I wouldn't sleep with it on.

My midwife suggested not to use it.  Try a weat bag.

how much does a wheatbag heat up like how much of your body I get cold pretty much all over..might just have to get more blankets.

we have been looking at getting a feather/goose duvet inner

I put in for 2 mins.  I got really really hot through the pregnancy.  The new inner sounds good, as you get on, bubs will be your electric blanket!!!    You could ask someone to make you a larger wheat bag???

Megangrace, we have a feather/down Duvet and I really feel the cold, but I get so hot in bed now I sweat quite a bit (sorry TMI), I also use a wheatbag, to warm myself up. We only use a sheet and the Duvet and its toasty and warm - even in winter. They are a great investment!!!!

P.S I live in chilly Dunedin too!

Well, I am not going to give mine up! I need my sleep and if I get cold, I need to be warm! But I wouldn't sleep with it on.

I find hot water bottles great! DP and I have one each in the winter. I used a heat bag too. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to use an electric blanket while pregnant? Is it to do with overheating? As long as you turn it off when you get into bed, surely nothing wrong with that?

IMHO it's really only a danger if you were to leave it on overnight, but I was too hot when pg to manage that, so just let it heat up the bed and switch off when time for zzzzz's - which my midwife said was totally fine.

I used to put mine on to warm the bed up then I'd trun it off once I got in... my midwife said this was fine!

I'm not giving up mine!! I really feel the cold, so used it at the start of the pregnancy, and I'm sure I'll need it in a month or so.

Is it the overheating that people worry about, or it giving off some sort of bad electric current or something?

I would say, you will be heating up the bed more than any electric blanket ever could, in a few months time

I used mine all thru last winter (why is it that the gremlins only became an effective heating system AFTER the weather started to warm up ) and some nights left it turned on all night on low. It's really only a danger if your waters break coz water + eletricity = not such a great combination.

I do the wheatbag thing, I actually have a couple - one on my feet and one for my hands/tummy that I kind of cuddle.. cos I find that if my hands and feet are warm, the rest of me is too. So if you're not supposed to leave your electric blanket on, you could put it on to warm it up and if you're still cold then have wheat bags too.
