Hi

My 11 month old son has started letting go of things and just walking away, he takes 6-7 steps and then falls down and keeps crawling, but he does this alot during the day, would you classify this as walking ?

TIA

Congratulations you have a walker I would definitley say that is walking. Anything more than 2 steps counts in my book

Walking here too and before you know it he'll be doing more and more steps and then running! My girl has just started walking and it's amazing how fast it's progressed. Been almost 2 weeks now I think but she went form taking her first 2-3 steps then nothing for a couple of days and then maybe about 6-10 steps and now she can just walk although when she 'runs' she maybe only does about 10 as she tries to slow down and falls over.

Lol yeah, ours is still a walker/crawler, without encouragement she still prefers crawling, its safer and faster.

Love the zombie/penguin, arms out, legs straight thing
Kiara is 3 and Teagan is 2, now we're expecting our long awaited 3rd!

Lily's still a crawler too and knows it's faster etc but instead of crawling first she'll try to walk and if she falls she just crawls instead (if she's after something). I am loving this age/stage!

oh gosh, I hated the learning to walk stage... so many bumps and falls and massive bruises on her head!! It was so painful to watch!
I much prefer the solid walking with no bangs and crashes!

Lily had a slip today. Slipped on the just mopped floor. We've been saying 'be careful' etc and she has been pretty cautious as a result but today she was after something. I think she got quite a fright tbh! Didn't cry though.

It's really neat seeing them become more and more like us if that makes sense.

But I feel awful when she hurts herself and cries etc.

did your girl learn to walk quite early?

both my children were around 14/15 months when they started taking steps/learning to walk and other than losing their balance and fallin down on their butts no bruises.

I think genereally speaking the older they are then they take their first steps the less wobbly they are

hmm you might be right novmum, she took her first step at nearly 9m, and by 9.5 she preferred it to crawling, i think the older they are the more aware of what they are doing, i know dd just had no idea! (shes much better now, but still gets a decent bump once every a weekish) she wasnt wobbly, just didnt realise she has to go around my feet, she wanted to go over them etc

Yep, alot of it is to do with spacial awareness which I think doesn't really kick in til they're nearer one (someone correct me if I'm wrong!)... I think J is going to be a bit like L is Emma
