Topic: Who felt like this? Posted: 19 April 2007 at 8:17am |
Well we told our parents last night. For some reason we felt like naughty teenagers who had got knocked up. We are 25 and 27 but still felt like we had done something wrong, strange! They were happy for us but shocked, and even more shocked to know it was planned! Did anybody else feel like this?

Ummmm yep we definately did and we are 28 and 29 and been together for 6 years! Another reason we felt like naughty teenagers was that we had only been married for three weeks and to have to tell them that I was four weeks pregnant! My parents were totally stoked, Dad just about had a heart attack but I know he is bursting with excitement, first grandchild and all. DF's parents were like oh my god, but you drank at the wedding, blah, blah, blah (its not like I had any idea I was pregnant, we had only just come off the pill the week of the wedding for goodness sake)!! I was like gee thanks, as if I don't already feel like a totally bad person enough for "not knowing I was pregnant" and having cried myself to sleep for the past week as I was feeling I had failed my child already. They soon got over it and now keep saying we are so looking forward to this baby!
So yep I definately hear you on that front, but I very soon got over it!
Edited to say, Oops! I said DF above - he would hate me for saying that, I meant DH! I always introduce him as "My partner" he's like I am your husband now - ooops I get so confused sometimes!

We felt like that too!!! I was 26 and he 27. His parents were cool about it!! they were all excited! My parents who are seperated (so two phone calls..) and are in Aus...were: Mum"Hang on I've got to pull over and have a cigarrette..." (??!!!!) and Dad was "Oh No!!!" (????????) So once we are pg this time, it will be interesting to see the next reactions.... Will probably be "Why did u wait so long...." or " But Ethan starts school next year, aren't you looking forward to being free of him.."

Peachy, did you conceive one week before the wedding or was that your LMP date? Because if it was your LMP date, the first two weeks of your pregnancy are actually only "placeholder" dates and you would have conceived one week after the wedding.... if that makes sense lol
When we announced our first pg, both sets of parents were excited (the first grandchild on both sides too). We had been married for two months and my parents suspected we would get pg early. DH's parents on the other hand wanted us to wait 5 years (they waited about 2) so I think they were kinda shocked and maybe a bit alarmed that we would be "just like my parents" or something (they have a lot of kids and also started right away but that wasn't intended lol). And then FIL turned around and announced they were having more children too - foster ones! That was a bit odd.

Absolutely! Maya was a big surprise to all concerned, but the gremlins were well planned. I had a m/c shortly before I got preg with them so I don't know WHY Mum and Dad were so surprised?

BUT they were all very very happy!! even my sis and inlaws were soooo happy!! MIL was especially happy the other day to find out that Astin is a boy not sure why but ah well

Um yes, we were both 21 when I got pregnant. We told my mum first (my dad was away) and she was shocked and exciting at the same time as she knew I would always have difficuties getting pregnant when I chose to try. DH's parents were really upset (You could really say pi$$ed), we weren't married and his brother had recently got married so was meant to be the one to have children first. DH's father was like "you aren't married and what if she leaves you, there goes your baby" I was not happy with that comment. We proved him wrong didn't we . Bu once Andrew was here they soon got over anything they had in there head.

i hated telling people, i just felt weird. Especially cause im only 20 and i just thought everyone would be shocked and disappointed as i still hadnt decided what the hell im doing with my life lol.
Everyone was sooo supportive though i was shocked. And i guess they also felt sorry for me seeing as Alex decided he wanted nothing to do with me or the baby.
I guess in a way i sort of felt like a naughty teenager. lol. I practically was/am a teenager anyway hehe.

Yip!! DH & I were only 19 when I get pregnant with James. We were quite worried about how our parents would react, I even went to Aussie with my mum, dad and sister for a holiday for 10 days at 2months pregnant without them knowing. I told my mum first when I was 3months and she was really happy, but disapointed I didn't tell her earlier, she even said "imagine all the presents I would have brought you in aussie". So although our parents were shocked at the news they took it really well and were really excited at getting there first grandson. Now all they ask is when we are having another baby!

Well I'm 18 and pregnant. Everyone was shocked and disappointed. Both mothers took it in stride but not the fathers (especially mine). But excitement is setting in and DF and I are proving we can be capable parents, and I have planned to the T. My babies going to be a girl!

When we went to tell my parents, I said something along the lines of "we have something to tell you" and mum blurted our "your pregnant" and yes we felt so out of sorts before we told them, and I think mum picked up on it.
I let hubbie tell his parents, as I really couldn't be bothered he told them not to tell anyone until I'd had my scan, and the silly tart called everyone the next day ... (no i don't like my outlaws

Everything went ok with our "telling the parents". It wasn't until MIL started doing the sex math thing that I got creeped out!

Its so weird.. I mean, here we are, all adults, but a bit freaked out about telling them... I suppose because then you are really telling you parents " I have something to tell you, my DH/DP/DF and I HAVE SEX!!! and LOTS of it!!!!" lol

Im glad im not the only one!!!! you hit the nail on the head Bee. It felt weird that they now know I have sex! Im sure the strange and uncomfortable feeling gets better with time. To those mums who are a bit younger- there is no reason why people should be dissappointed as the birth and years after are an accomplishment in themselves! anyway, in our parents day it was normal to have kids young so why should it not be accepted now. Congrats on finding out your having a girl babyonboard. I really want a girl, partner wants a boy-typical.

It does get better with time. Although, once you have the tum to show... It all on again because you feel like you are telling the world "Hey I had SEX!!!"
Gosh, my Mum was 19 when she started! No reason for the parents to be ashamed/disapointed.

to be honest I never really thought about it.
I mean my husband and I have been together for 9 years (married for almost 2 and a half) I am pretty sure our parents know we have sex (well they do now..pmsl)
