Topic: Weight watchers pro points??? Posted: 26 May 2011 at 1:55pm |
Hi,
Has anyone joined or is in weight watchers since apparently its all changed???????? Has it or is that marketing.
I have finally got my wobbly butt moving and doing a good amount of exercise but need to fix my diet, done weightwatchers before and it was good I have a lot of the books so don't really want to pay and join again, but that depends on how different it is??

yes it has all changed....
thereis a minimum of 29 points all the way up to 72 points
eg if you are an 8 foot 450kg male you would be on 72 points
I am on 36 points (I have an extra 3 for breastfeeding)
the amount of points you get are based on your age weight height and gender.
points are now calculated on
protein carbs total fat and fibre. all fresh fruit and most veges are 0 pro points. The reason is that not all kilojoules (what the old programe is based one) are created equal.
for eg a white piece of bread and 100 gram peice of chicken might both be 200kjs but the chicken would have more protein so would keep you fuller for longer.
generally speakking the higher in protein and fibre the less pro points and the hight in fat and carbs the higher the pro points.
each person also get a weekly allowance of 49 pro points these can be used for things like if you get invited out for lunch for diner..jutst think under the old system where you could only save 4 points a day. so if your day 1 was on Wednesday and you got invited out for dinner the next day...you would only be able to save 4 points from the wednesday..with the new system you have that extra 49 up your sleeve so you can still eat your daily points (no saving points with pro points now) and then can dip into your weekly (49) pro points allowance.
Breastfeeding mums get an extra 14 if they are exclusively breastfeeding and an extra 7 once formula or solids is introduced....I am doing an extra 3 as although I am stil breastfeeding it is ont my child's main source of nutrition (he is 18 months)

i think the new system is more flexible especially with the 49 extra points you get a week...that is essentially an extra 7 points a day...
the 49 points are also good if you get invited out for an impromput lunch,,under the old system you might have been on 20 points and say by lunch you had already eaten 7 points leaving you 13 points (plus whatever you had saved if you had saved any) and you panic and think arghh what can I eat for 13 points plus I still need to have dinner.
with pro points you get invited out for lunch that day...say you are on 29 daily points you have alreayd eaten 12 points so you are left with 17 daily points the place you are going to for lunch is quite high in pro points but you know you have the 49 points up your sleeve so you stil have enough for lunch and for your dinner later on that night :)

I do like the pro points, altho Im doing My fitness pal and its counts every calorie for everything including fruit and vegies which is the downfall compared to WW cos at least with pro points you can have as much fruit and veg as you like
