Wondering if anyone can help. We've been using babyfirst cloth nappies on our 10 month old, and the 'inners' are really smelly! I've just done some research on the net and am finding conflicting advice about washing them in cold water/hot water/without detergent/with baking soda/vinegar etc etc. Has any anyone encountered this problem and what did you do to fix it? A while back I had an issue with the nappies leaking and the babyfirst company told me to wash them with no detergent to increase absorbancy.

You could try looking in the cloth nappy section below...and perhaps do a search.
Sounds like you need to do a strip wash. You can do it using dishwashing liquid, about 1/4c of cheap stuff and hot water...then rinse, rinse, rinse until no bubbles remain...
Alternatively you could get some Rockin Green and do an overnight soak and they'll come up really well.

I personally never use baking soda or vinegar on my nappies as it can damage the elastic and PUL over time...it is also not that great for bamboo or other natural fibres.

Our cloth naps went the same. We no longer use them because DD kept getting infections when she was in them but was fine in sposies unfortunately.
Anyway - we did the baking soda/vinegar thing and aired them out heaps in the sun, always put them thru a rinse only cycle after I'd washed them in detergent etc etc but it never seemed to make a difference. They got a bit bettr but always smelt a bit. Would be interested to see how the best way is to make them less stinky cause would like to give cloth a try again when we have another bub

We use rockin green and do a regular soak with it and it has helped a lot. I also do a rinse with canerstan bout once a month.

We had a similar issue about a month ago and I did a lot of the suggestions that improved them. The things that I think helped the most is having a few drops of tea tree oil on a cloth which I now keep at the bottom of the sunshine and getting them out in the wellington wind and sunshine as much as possible. I have been known to put ht clean and dry inners on the clothes horse just outside my daughters bedroom window and give them time in the sun - I just reach out the window and grab one when I need to change her...
