Topic: Toddler essentials? Posted: 11 September 2011 at 8:29pm |
We are a few short weeks away from DD's first birthday and I've been packing up her baby clothes/stuff that we no longer use and have as a result created a lot more space in her room.
Wondering what she will need as a toddler.
What do toddler's need and what have you found useful with a busy active toddler?

Are you meaning clothes or toys etc?
Books, wooden building blocks, a solid trolley to push, a pram and baby- they get really into babies around 18months.
Both kids love their little fold out couch beds- they both have them and use them all the time to set and read books on, eat snacks, watch tv etc - Isla is almost 5 and has had hers since she was 1!

Patience and energy
Paints and paper, you can make edible paint with colouring and cornflour.
A soccerball. Wooden blocks are good.
Loads of time outside exploring and playing. Lots of walks and time at the park.
Old magazines for ripping up dd used to locve ripping magazines.
Shape sorters are always good too. And pots ans pans with wooden spoons for banging .

Great ideas, toys and stuff for activities the paint and paper is great, do they eat it? Thankfully we're heading into summer and lots of chances to get outside and explore.

We dont do much craft stuff yet as yes Aiden eats it- playdoh, chomps on crayons, sucks on stamps etc!
Sandpit is great idea too- We just have those blue sea sheels with one filled with sand and the other used as the cover.

My DS is 21 months and is loving playdough at the moment with cutters/rolling pin etc. Also loves his little bike (the plastic ones that they can push along with their feet) He is starting to like really simple puzzles, loves finger paint, washable crayolas - I just got him an easel which he is loving. A little pop up tent that he can go in and out of, plus we play shops using food from the cupboard and money from the money jar. He is just starting to like pretend play so anthing like a shopping trolley, dollies, tea sets etc would be great. He loves tools, but I've found that he would rather play with his dads 'real'tools than any toys. I've been trying to think of things to keep him busy as we have baby number 2 on the way and I plan on spending lots of time around the house for awhile.....

Yeah they LOVE Ball pits!
Get some simple wooden puzzles.
Or join a toy library, then you can change your toys ever three weeks and you'll suss out what she really likes & enjoys to get them for presents for Xmas or birthdays.
