Hi everyone,

Probably a weird question, but do you think its ok to use Hand Sanitiser in pregnancy? I have been using it a lot over the past few weeks after i touch my cats as i found soap and water too drying.

Yesterday i realised its Ethyl Alcholol (sorry very bad spelling!) and i suddenly wondered it its ok to use on hands? I use about the size of a pea or less at any one time.

thanks ladies!

It will be fine, it evaporates really quickly so I would be surprised if any gets absorbed through your skin. Can be drying on the skin but the ones with aloe in them as well are better.

Good on ya SimSam. I must admit I prefer it to soap, it makes my hands nice and soft and smells good too....once it has evaporated that is.

It might depend on the brand with regards to drying. I use Aquim which we bought in bulk from a supplier and my hands stay much more moisturised than they used to with soap and water.

I had the same thought with mouthwash? I was using it to get rid of the puke taste, but then realised it contained alcohol. I wasn't swallowing it, but decided to stop using it anyway. I think the mouth would absorb alcohol more readily than hands?

What do you guys reckon?

I just asked my boss ( whos a dentist) and he said that mouth wash is perfectly fine as long as your not ingesting it, but teeth whitening gels ( like the ones you paint on your teeth) shouldnt be used as can be harmful if swallowed and also are harsh on gums and gums are ultra sensitive when pregnant.
