I have a question...
What do you do when your child receives gifts that you don't want them having?
DD received a couple of things in February that are an absolute no-go for us and they are sitting in my cupboard taking up room because I don't want to re-gift them.

Accidentally 'lose' or 'break' them  Sell them on TM?
We haven't had anything DH or I disagree with as such, but we've had some blimmin noisy toys! The worst one was a microphone thing that MIL bought and it has 1 volume - loud, and it screeches! The very next time they stayed over at her house I made them take it. She later apologised for ever buying it

I file them at the bottom of the toy basket and then I file them on Trade Me or the Op-Shop.

We haven't had any no-go's (yet, I'm sure they're brewing ) but I'd probably give them to an op shop or put them on TM and put the money in their piggy bank

Its not DD that's the problem - she knows that they aren't things we have in our home and she's really good about it. Its more the best way of getting rid of them.
Throwing in the trash seems like a waste of brand new toys.
TradeMe/Opshop is a good idea - thanks!

They're both dolls, I think one is called a "moxie" something or other and the other one looks like a barbie of sorts. They're both plastered in make-up and wearing clothing that would be perfectly suitable in a red light district 
We've been called 'conservative' before which I was surprised and amused by. I guess we are! I wasn't keen on having any barbies at all in the house but have softened and she has a couple of fairy barbie dolls now (which makes feminist me want to throw up a little in my mouth, but hey...).

I would give them to a charity for Christmas - Amy's school is doing 'pack the bus' and I have re-homed some things there.

You could wrap them up & put under a Xmas gift tree for kids that have nothing.
My kids have gotten a few toys that they were not interested in so I am re gifting them this Xmas & others I sell & they get the money to buy what they want.

Kmart wishing tree here! I bought something for Dps little cousin (7yo) he was obsessed with Ben10 but now informs me he isn't so I'm giving it to the KMart wishing tree. Otherwise things Lily gets I sort into toy boxes - she has 2 and I tell people I rotate them every so often and just keep the stuff I approve of in the toy box left out iygwim!

(But before I saw posts about the wishing tree, I was going to say SPCA OpShops, as the money goes back into caring for the animals!)

Salvation army also take gifts for the needy.

I also agree with you about those dolls- no way I would let Ella have them either. Ella has a couple of princess barbies, but I am VERY pricky as to what sort of clothes they can have
I was going to suggest the Kmart wishing tree as well

I'd probably TM them and either keep or donate the money - that way, you're not gifting them to other kids whose parents might not be that keen either.

We have the same problem with MIL, the problem we have though is that she gives too much (like several rubbish bags full of stuffed toys and dolls, really excessive).
We donate it all to op shops/charity and if she ever asks where something is when she visits (luckily she only visits about once a year!) I will just tell her it's at my mother's place so the girls have toys to play with out there

Yeah those dolls are gross! Kmart wishing tree here too.
We get given "smellies" for little girls & I confiscate them, who the hell knows what ingredients are in them, plus I run a 90% fragrance free house.
