Topic: ark cafe Posted: 09 April 2007 at 1:54pm |
Hubby and i went to the ark cafe on manukau rd, epsom, auckland yesterday and i wanted to let you know how great it was.
they have a mini (yes a real car) in the cafe for the kids to play in and a giant game - like connect 4 - kids books and paper and colouring pencils. the water cooler has cups for toddlers, babies with lids on and glasses for adults. and the kids menu didnt have any chips at all - there were sammies, organic egg, pikelets, fruit salad and yoghurt, spaghetti and cheese pizzas...and they do baby food too - GE free, preservative free, sugar, salt, wheat, egg, dairy just about everything free so just like what you would do at home.
the prices were reasonable and the staff friendly but best of all hubby got to eat without getting all worried about the kids. he usually stresses they will make a scene, but here it doesnt matter cause lots of them had kids there and they were too happy to make a scene.
only down side was that the kids had so much fun they didnt eat much lunch.

Wow that sounds like a great place for families to take kids! They must be on to a winner with all the good food too.
We took our nephews to a wee cafe in Howick which was really lovely, on a MUCH smaller scale than the ark cafe sounds like though! They had a toy box and the staff were really lovely.. snakes and ladders was a hit with the boys. No outside area and not a huge cafe, but it was great all the same. Charlee's cafe I think it was. Didn't have a special kids meal but were happy to do anything off the menu in a smaller portion and charge less, which was great.

They are also pretty quick with the meals which is always a plus with kids!

yeah welly really needs a business like that all the cafes here in the hutt arent exactly family friendly and are really boring for the minis.
it wouldnt be a silly idea to get one up here.

They do.. it's just not central
The Short Straw Cafe in Whitemans Valley, Silverstream (near Upper Hutt).
It's a 40 min drive from Wellington city, so I guess about 20 mins from the Hutt?
It has an awesome indoor and outdoor playground, kiddie meals are $5 and are healthy, just a really nice atmosphere and the food for adults is good too. If any of you Welly people want to take a trip out there one day, let me know as I'd be keen to go back.. we had Ellas 2nd birthday there

I'd love to do morning tea but alas have to work...
We quite often go there, we tend to make it our "monthly" going out to lunch place only because it's down the road from us.
Maybe you could organise to make it the "next" meet up?

I'll be in!! Ethan and I need to get out of the house! I'd prefer a Monday or Friday cos then there is no Kindy to rush back to...
